2013  UAM  FOOTBALL   STORYLINES  continued…   STILL  TOPS  IN  TURNOVERS  GAINED

Despite  throwing  five  interceptions  in  last  Saturday’s  loss  to   Henderson  State,  the  Boll  Weevils  still  lead  the  GAC  and  rank   18th  in  the  nation  with  a  total  of  24  turnovers  gained  throughout   nine  games  of  the  2013  season.  UAM  also  leads  the  league  and   ranks  11th  in  the  nation  in  fumbles  lost  at  only  four  to  this  point.   UAM  has  lost  its  top  spot  in  the  league  in  turnover  margin,  but   still  ranks  second  with  an  average  of  0.7  turnovers  gained  per   game  and  a  +6  margin  overall  this  season.     TOP  PASS  DEFENSE   UAM  leads  the  GAC  in  passing  defense  with  an  average  of  only   186.1  yards  allowed  per  game  through  the  air.  UAM  held   Henderson  State  to  194  passing  yards  last  Saturday.  The  HSU   passing  game  was  averaging  over  427  yards  through  the  air  prior   to  last  Saturday’s  game.  That  pass  defense  helped  limit  HSU  to   under  40  points  for  the  first  time  this  season.     TACKLING  MACHINE   The  “tackling  machine”  title  has  come  back  to  junior  rover  Keith   Reynolds,  who  has  been  at  or  near  the  top  of  the  box  score  in   tackles  in  each  of  the  past  three  games  for  UAM.  Reynolds  ranks   fifth  in  the  conference  with  an  average  of  7.9  tackles  per  game   and  has  totaled  71  tackles  this  season,  41  of  which  have  been   unassisted.  Reynolds  led  the  GAC  in  tackles  for  the  first  three   weeks  of  the  season.     MCGEE  HAVING  ALL-‐AMERICA  SEASON   Freshman  kicker  Jamie  McGee  has  posted  All-‐America  type   numbers  in  his  first  collegiate  season,  ranking  second  in  the   nation  in  field  goals  per  game  with  an  average  of  1.8  per  contest.   McGee  broke  UAM’s  single-‐season  record  for  field  goals  made   two  weeks  ago  and  is  looking  to  pad  that  record  in  the  remaining   two  games  of  the  2013  campaign.  He  leads  UAM  in  scoring  with   16-‐of-‐18  made  field  goals  and  25-‐of-‐27  made  extra  point   attempts.

WHERE  IS  ROBINSON?

Opposing  quarterbacks  will  probably  be  making  sure  they  know   where  sophomore  cornerback  Demarcus  Robinson  is  for  the   remainder  of  the  2013  season.  Robinson  has  jumped  into  the  top   20  in  the  nation  in  passes  defended  with  an  average  of  1.6  per   game.  Last  week  against  HSU,  Robinson  recorded  a  61-‐yard   interception  return  for  a  touchdown,  UAM’s  first  pick  six  of  the   season.  Robinson  and  UAM’s  other  cornerback  Mike  Early  each   have  four  interceptions  this  season,  which  ties  for  33rd  in  the   country.     QUARTERBACK  EFFICIENCY   Despite  throwing  five  interceptions  in  the  first  half  of  last   Saturday’s  loss  to  Henderson  State,  UAM’s  quarterbacks  have   been  efficient  passers  this  season.  Current  starter  Cody  Trimble   has  completed  nearly  63  percent  of  his  passes,  ranking  fourth  in   the  conference  with  backup  Colton  Morrison  right  behind  in  fifth   at  60.4  percent.

WILLIAM  “HUD”  JACKSON

Head  Coach  –  Third  Year

After  19  years  of  coaching,  William  “Hud”  Jackson  finally  got  his  shot  to  become  a  head  coach  at  the  collegiate  level  with   one  of  the  best  birthday  presents  he  could  imagine.     Jackson  was  named  UAM’s  25th  head  football  coach  on  his  43rd  birthday,  December  14,  2010.  He  led  the  Boll  Weevils  to  a   5-‐6  record  during  his  first  year  in  the  green  and  white,  including  a  stunning  23-‐9  victory  over  then  ranked  No.  4  Valdosta   State  in  the  fifth  week  of  the  season.  He  guided  the  Boll  Weevils  to  a  fourth  place  finish  in  the  first  year  of  the  Great   American  Conference  after  the  league’s  head  coaches  picked  UAM  to  finish  last.     Along  the  way,  UAM  ranked  in  the  top  half  of  20  different  GAC  statistical  categories,  including  the  league’s  best  numbers  in   total  interceptions  (17)  and  first  downs  (21.8  per  game).  His  offense  ranked  third  with  an  average  of  just  under  400  yards   per  game,  and  his  defense  also  ranked  third  with  just  362.5  yards  per  game  allowed.     Jackson  and  his  staff  produced  nine  all-‐conference  selections  during  the  2011  campaign,  including  a  trio  of  first  team   honorees  in  receiver  D.J.  Stephens,  returning  offensive  lineman  Seth  Oxner  and  punter  Derek  Jambon.  Jackson  added   another  all-‐conference  honoree  in  honorable  mention  wide  reciever  Jamal  Nixon  following  the  1-‐10  2012  season.     In  addition  to  his  attention  to  on-‐field  production,  Jackson’s  staff  has  also  revamped  the  UAM  football  roster,  striving  to   secure  as  much  local  talent  as  possible.  In  his  first  recruiting  class  prior  to  the  2011  season,  Jackson  unveiled  a  list  of  34  high   school  seniors,  22  of  which  coming  from  within  a  90-‐mile  radius  of  the  UAM  campus.  More  of  the  same  for  the  2012  with   another  dozen  locked  up  from  within  that  area.  He  added  another  10  from  that  radius  for  the  2013  season.     Prior  to  taking  the  UAM  job,  Jackson  had  served  the  previous  six  seasons  as  associate  head  coach  at  University  of  Central   Arkansas,  a  member  of  the  NCAA  Division  I-‐Football  Championship  Subdivision  and  the  Southland  Conference.     As  associate  head  coach  at  UCA,  Jackson  aided  Clint  Conque’s  Bears  in  the  school’s  transition  from  the  Gulf  South   Conference  to  becoming  one  of  the  nation’s  top  Division  I-‐FCS  programs.  He  was  the  director  of  football  operations  at  UCA,   which  included  the  organization  of  the  team’s  travel,  the  bidding  and  ordering  of  all  football  equipment  and  supervision  of   student  managers.       In  addition  to  his  duties  as  UCA’s  director  of  football  operations,  Jackson  coached  the  running  backs  and  return  specialists.         At  UCA,  Jackson  coached  Brent  Grimes,  a  two-‐time  All-‐Southland  Conference  running  back  (2008-‐09)  and  an  All-‐America   honoree  in  2009.  Jackson  also  coached  Kentrel  Rogers,  who  earned  All-‐America  honors  in  2005,  and  most  recently  was   named  to  the  Gulf  South  Conference  All-‐Decade  team.       Two  of  Jackson’s  return  specialists  were  the  best  in  the  SLC.  Tristan  Jackson  earned  All-‐America  and  All-‐SLC  honors  after   leading  all  NCAA  divisions  in  2007  with  an  average  of  23.6  yards  per  punt  return  and  25.8  yards  per  kickoff  return.  A  year   later,  T.J.  Adams  led  the  SLC  with  an  average  of  26.6  yards  per  kickoff  return.       The  Bears  were  7-‐4  in  2010  with  a  4-‐3  mark  in  the  SLC,  and  were  ranked  in  the  FCS  Top  25  poll  for  the  fourth  straight   season.  In  2008,  Jackson  helped  UCA  to  its  most  successful  season  since  moving  to  Division  I-‐FCS,  posting  a  10-‐2  overall   record  while  winning  the  SLC  title  with  a  6-‐1  league  record.  The  Bears  finished  ranked  No.  12  in  the  final  polls  and  had  15   All-‐SLC  honorees.       Prior  to  joining  the  staff  at  UCA,  Jackson  served  a  variety  of  roles  at  Central  Catholic  High  School  in  Morgan  City,  La.  from   1997-‐2005.  In  addition  to  being  the  athletics  director,  head  football  coach  and  head  baseball  coach,  he  also  served  as  the   school’s  disciplinarian,  textbook  coordinator  and  mission  development  coordinator,  as  well  as  assisting  the  school’s   fundraising  initiatives.       At  CCHS,  Jackson  led  his  football  teams  to  an  overall  record  of  65-‐32,  including  a  state  runner-‐up  finish  in  1997  and  three   district  championships  (1997,  2000,  2004).  After  each  of  those  titles,  he  was  named  district  coach  of  the  year.  He  coached   Curtis  Randall  at  CCHS,  who  played  for  the  NFL’s  Seattle  Seahawks  in  2004.       As  head  baseball  coach,  Jackson  led  CCHS  to  an  overall  record  of  84-‐36,  including  three  state  championships  (2002,  2004-‐ 05).  He  earned  district  coach  of  the  year  honors  four  times  in  baseball  (2000,  2002-‐04).       Jackson  entered  the  coaching  ranks  as  an  assistant  football  and  baseball  coach  at  Rayne  (La.)  High  School  in  1992,  and   remained  on  staff  until  1993.  At  Rayne,  Jackson  assisted  the  school’s  baseball  team  in  its  1992  state  championship   campaign.       In  1993,  Jackson  moved  to  Assumption  High  School  in  Napoleonville,  La.,  where  he  served  for  three  seasons  as  the  football   team’s  offensive  coordinator  and  assistant  baseball  coach.       The  next  stop  for  Jackson  was  Oberlin  (La.)  High  School  from  1995-‐97.  During  that  tenure,  he  served  as  the  school’s  athletics   director,  head  football  coach  and  head  baseball  coach.       Jackson  graduated  from  E.D.  White  High  School  in  Thibodaux,  La.  in  1987,  where  he  was  an  all-‐state  baseball  player.  He   continued  his  education  at  McNeese  State  University  in  Lake  Charles,  La.,  where  he  earned  a  bachelor’s  degree  in   psychology  in  1992.       Jackson  was  a  three-‐year  starter  at  quarterback  for  the  Cowboys.  He  also  lettered  in  baseball,  earning  the  team’s  most   valuable  player  and  outstanding  pitcher  awards  in  1991.       Jackson’s  father,  Sonny,  was  the  head  football  coach  at  Nicholls  State  University  in  Thibodaux  from  1981-‐1986,  and  is  still   the  program’s  most  successful  coach.  During  his  tenure,  Sonny  Jackson  led  the  Colonels  to  a  39-‐28-‐1  record,  winning  the   Gulf  Star  Conference  in  1984  and  taking  NSU  to  its  first  ever  NCAA  Division  I-‐AA  playoff  appearance  in  1986.  He  was  also  the   head  coach  at  McNeese  State  for  three  seasons  from  1987-‐89.       Hud  Jackson  and  his  wife,  Patricia,  were  married  in  1989.  They  have  one  son,  William,  Jr.  (19),  and  two  daughters,  Alexis  (23)   and  Baleigh  (14).  William,  Jr.  will  is  currently  a  freshman  for  the  Boll  Weevils.

2013  UAM  FOOTBALL

GAME  1  R   ECAP:  East  Central  46,  UAM  22

ADA,  Okla.  –  The  University  of  Arkansas  Monticello   football  team  outgained  East  Central  in  total  offense,   but  committed  five  turnovers  leading  to  a  46-‐22  loss   for  the  Boll  Weevils  on  Saturday  (9/7/13)  at  Norris   Field  in  the  2013  season  opener.     The  Tigers  (1-‐0,  1-‐0  Great  American  Conference)   used  a  19-‐point  second  quarter  to  create  a  deficit   that  proved  too  large  to  overcome.  Prior  to  ECU's  19   second-‐quarter  points,  UAM  brought  the  score  to   within  four  points  on  a  23-‐yard  field  goal  by   freshman  Jamie  McGee  at  the  4:20  mark  of  the  first   quarter  and  a  safety  by  way  of  junior  linebacker  Alex   Black  on  ECU's  ensuing  possession  10  seconds  later.     Following  a  UAM  interception  on  the  next   possession,  the  Tigers  responded  with  a  one-‐yard   touchdown  run  from  quarterback  Spencer  Bond  to   allow  ECU  to  take  a  14-‐5  lead  at  the  2:30  mark  of  the   first  quarter.  McGee  opened  the  second-‐quarter   scoring  with  a  24-‐yard  field  goal  at  the  13:43  mark  to   pull  UAM  to  within  six  points  at  14-‐8.     ECU  responded  with  two  touchdowns,  a  field  goal   and  a  safety,  all  unanswered,  to  account  for  its  19   second-‐quarter  points  to  take  a  31-‐8  into  the  locker   room  at  the  halftime  break.     UAM  (0-‐1,  0-‐1  GAC)  outscored  ECU  14-‐13  in  the   second  half,  all  points  coming  in  the  third  quarter,   starting  with  an  eight-‐yard  touchdown  pass  from   sophomore  Colton  Morrison  to  sophomore  Cody   Bordelon  to  cap  a  seven-‐play,  44-‐yard  drive  at  the   11:13  mark  to  trim  ECU's  lead  to  33-‐15.     The  Tigers  answered  with  a  six-‐play,  43-‐yard  drive   capped  by  a  five-‐yard  touchdown  pass  from  Bond  to   Lindsey  Anderson,  giving  ECU  a  40-‐15  lead  with  8:38   remaining  in  the  third  quarter.     UAM's  final  score  of  the  night  came  on  a  two-‐yard   touchdown  rush  from  junior  Rod  Smith  at  the  7:14   mark  of  the  third  quarter  to  cap  a  four-‐play,  19-‐ yarddrive  that  was  set  up  by  a  58-‐yard  kickoff  return   by  junior  Mike  Early  and  a  15-‐yard  unsportsmanlike   conduct  penalty  assessed  to  ECU.     ECU  capped  the  scoring  with  28  seconds  remaining   in  the  third  quarter  with  an  80-‐yard  interception   return  for  a  touchdown  by  Quamain  Black.     UAM  finished  the  night  with  349  yards  of  total   offense  to  ECU's  297.  The  Weevils  had  326  yards   passing  and  23  yards  rushing  on  32  attempts.  ECU  collected  224  rushing  yards,  led  by  JoJo  Snell's  101  yards  on  16  carries,  all  in  the  first  half.     Morrison  finished  his  UAM  debut  38-‐of-‐55  through  the  air  with  241  yards  with  one  touchdown  pass  and  three  interceptions.  Sophomore  Cody  Trimble  went  3-‐for-‐9  in  relief  with   85  yards  and  one  interception.     UAM's  favorite  target  in  the  passing  game  in  the  loss  to  ECU  was  Bordelon,  who  finished  with  a  career-‐high  12  receptions  for  128  yards,  including  his  eight-‐yard  touchdown  grab   in  the  third  quarter,  UAM's  first  touchdown  of  the  2013  season.     Junior  Ian  Levine  added  seven  receptions  for  65  yards,  while  sophomore  TreyTaylor  had  seven  catches  for  42  yards.     McGee  was  perfect  in  his  UAM  debut,  going  2-‐for-‐2  on  field  goals  and  2-‐for-‐2  on  extra  points.     Defensively,  the  Weevils  were  led  by  junior  Keith  Reynolds,  who  collected  nine  tackles,  including  one  tackle  for  a  loss,  and  two  pass  deflections  in  his  first  game  in  the  Green  and   White.

2013  UAM  FOOTBALL

GAME  2  RECAP:  UAM  42,  SE  Oklahoma  State  34   MONTICELLO  –  The  University  of  Arkansas  at  Monticello  football  team  snapped  an  11-‐game  losing  streak  with  a  42-‐34  win  over  Southeastern  Oklahoma  State  on  Saturday   (9/14/13)  at  home.     The  Weevils  (1-‐1,  1-‐1  Great  American  Conference)   were  the  only  team  to  score  back-‐to-‐back   touchdowns  in  the  contest  that  featured  a   combined  10  touchdowns  and  three  field  goals.   Each  team  answered  the  other's  scores  on  every   occasion  with  the  exception  of  UAM's  first  two   touchdowns  of  the  second  quarter.  A  14-‐yard  pass   from  freshman  Brett  Courville  to  junior  Skylar   Scott  at  the  11:11  mark  followed  by  an   unsuccessful  extra  point  attempt  left  UAM  down   one  point  at  14-‐13.     After  forcing  Southeastern  (1-‐1,  1-‐1  GAC)  to  punt   on  the  ensuing  possession,  UAM  went  ahead  for   the  first  time  on  a  four-‐yard  touchdown  run  from   junior  Rod  Smith  at  the  7:41  mark.  A  failed  two-‐ point  conversion  gave  UAM  a  19-‐14  lead.     Southeastern  answered  on  a  24-‐yard  touchdown   pass  from  to  Kaymon  Farmer  from  Nick  Sioson  to   put  the  Savage  Storm  back  on  top  21-‐19  with  4:32   remaining  in  the  opening  half.  UAM  took  the  lead   at  the  break  with  a  33-‐yard  field  goal  from   freshman  Jamie  McGee  with  39  seconds  left.     Southeastern  opened  the  second  half  scoring  on  a   29-‐yard  Sioson  pass  to  Anthony  Gale  at  the  12:01   mark.  UAM  went  to  Skylar  Scott  again  for  its  next   score,  a  four-‐yard  scoring  strike  from  sophomore   Colton  Morrison  to  put  UAM  on  top  by  one  at  29-‐ 28  with  8:05  left  in  the  third  quarter.     The  Savage  Storm  answered  with  a  Chris  Peoples   23-‐yard  field  goal  to  cap  a  14-‐play,  six-‐minute   drive.     Scott  hauled  in  his  third  touchdown  catch  of  the   evening  to  start  the  fourth  quarter  scoring  with  a   66-‐yard  reception  from  Morrison  on  the  first  play   of  a  drive  following  a  Southeastern  punt.     Peoples  finalized  the  Southeastern  scoring  with  a   37-‐yard  field  goal  on  theensuing  possession  to  cap   another  14-‐play  drive.  That  field  goal  still  left   UAM  with  a  one-‐point  advantage  at  35-‐34  with   9:21  remaining  in  regulation.     The  Weevils  added  cushion  with  the  final  score  of   the  game  on  a  30-‐yard  catch  and  run  from   Morrison  to  senior  Jamal  Nixon  to  cap  a  five-‐play,   97-‐yard  drive  following  a  fumble  recovery  on  a   first  and  goal  situation  for  the  Savage  Storm.   Nixon  was  responsible  for  UAM's  first  touchdown   of  the  game  with  a  51-‐yard  catch  and  run  from   Morrison  following  a  Southeastern  touchdown  at  the  9:42  mark  of  the  opening  quarter.     UAM  came  away  with  a  plus-‐three  turnover  margin  in  the  contest  after  forcing  four  turnovers  –  three  interceptions  and  a  fumble  recovery.  UAM  forced  a  total  of  six  fumbles  in   the  game.  Two  of  UAM's  interceptions  were  from  junior  Mike  Early,  one  of  which  was  returned  46  yards.  Early  finished  the  night  with  a  total  of  eight  tackles  and  recorded  an   additional  pass  breakup.     Junior  Keith  Reynolds  led  the  UAM  defensive  attack  for  the  second-‐straight  game  with  10  tackles,  eight  of  which  were  unassisted.  Junior  Alex  Black  also  recorded  10  tackles  in   the  win,  and  was  credited  with  UAM's  third  interception  off  a  deflected  pass.     Skylar  Scott  finished  the  game  with  a  team-‐high  eight  receptions  for  a  career-‐high  165  yards  with  three  touchdowns.  Nixon  finished  with  seven  receptions  for  151  yards  with   two  scores.     Colton  Morrison  finished  25-‐of-‐36  through  the  air  with  345  yards  and  four  touchdowns  and  no  interceptions.  Courville  was  2-‐for-‐2  in  relief  for  27  yards  and  one  touchdown.

MONTICELLO  –  The  University  of  Arkansas  at   Monticello  football  team  recorded  its  second   consecutive  victory  with  a  22-‐20  win  over   Northwestern  Oklahoma  State  on  Saturday  (9/21/2013)   at  home  in  Great  American  Conference  action.     The  low-‐scoring  affair  was  highlighted  by  the  leg  of   freshman  kicker  Jamie  McGee,  who  was  responsible  for   10  of  UAM's  22  points  in  the  victory.  McGee  nailed  a   32-‐yarder  early  in  the  first  quarter  for  the  game's  first   score,  followed  with  a  23-‐yarder  with  just  over  six   minutes  remaining  in  the  thirdquarter  to  put  UAM  up   19-‐14  and  finalized  the  scoring  with  a  career-‐high  43-‐ yarder  with  just  over  10  minutes  remaining  in   regulation.     McGee  adds  to  his  already  GAC  best  field  goal  totals   with  his  performance  against  the  Rangers.  He  now  has   converted  on  all  six  of  his  attempts  through  the  first   three  games  of  the  season.  He  tied  a  UAM  single-‐game   record  on  Saturday  with  his  three  made  field  goals,  a   record  that  had  been  accomplished  10  times  before   this  weekend.     Following  McGee's  first  field  goal  of  the  night,  the   Rangers  (0-‐3,  0-‐3  GAC)  took  a  7-‐3  lead  following  a  39-‐ yard  touchdown  pass  from  L.T.  Pfaff  to  Mervin  Stewart   to  cap  a  five-‐play,  65-‐yard  drive  using  2:29.     UAM  (2-‐1,  2-‐1  GAC)  answered  on  the  first  play  of  the   second  quarter  on  an  eight-‐yard  quarterback  keeper  for   a  score  from  freshman  Brett  Courville  followed  by  a   blocked  extra  point  try  to  give  the  Weevils  a  9-‐7  lead.   That  score  was  set  up  by  a  blocked  punt  from  the  hands   of  junior  Anthony  Hughes  inside  the  NWOSU  10-‐yard   line  as  time  expired  in  the  first  period.     The  Rangers  regained  the  lead  later  in  the  second   quarter  on  a  42-‐yard  touchdown  pass  from  Pfaff  to   Montrell  Logan  to  cap  a  quick  three-‐play,  54-‐yard  drive   that  used  just  took  just  over  a  minute.     UAM  put  together  a  shorter  scoring  drive  for  its  next   score,  a  76-‐yard  catch-‐and-‐run  for  a  touchdown  from   junior  Jamal  Nixon,  who  reversed  field  and  broke  three   tackles  to  find  the  end  zone.  That  was  the  second  play   of  a  49  second  drive.     McGee  added  his  second  field  goal  at  the  6:15  mark  of   the  third  quarter,  the  only  score  of  the  period  to  cap  a   nine-‐play,  37-‐yard  drive  that  was  set  up  by  a  failed  fake   punt  attempt  by  the  Rangers.     The  Rangers  found  the  end  zone  once  more  on  the  first  drive  of  the  fourth  quarter  using  a  one-‐yard  touchdown  run  by  Zachry  Doyle  to  put  his  team  up  20-‐19  with  13:52   remaining.     McGee  nailed  what  ended  up  being  the  game  winning  43-‐yard  field  goal  to  cap  a  10-‐play,  28-‐yard  drive  that  used  3:40.     The  UAM  defense  sealed  the  victory  by  forcing  turnovers  on  NWOSU's  final  two  offensive  possessions  of  the  game.  Sophomore  Marshall  Everett  recovered  a  fumble  at  the  6:16   mark  with  the  Rangers  inside  the  UAM  40-‐yard  line,  and  sophomore  Demarcus  Robinson  picked  off  a  Pfaff  pass  with  2:59  remaining.  With  no  timeouts  remaining  for  NWOSU,   UAM  was  able  to  run  out  the  remaining  three  minutes  to  seal  the  team's  first  two-‐game  win  streak  since  the  2011  season.     UAM  used  three  quarterbacks  in  the  win  with  sophomore  Colton  Morrison  leading  the  way  going  18-‐of-‐32  for  120  yards.  Sophomore  Cody  Trimble  went  6-‐for-‐10  for  111  yards   and  was  credited  with  the  touchdown  pass  on  Nixon's  long  run.  In  addition  to  his  25  rushing  yards  on  seven  carries,  Courville  finished  1-‐for-‐5  for  18  yards  passing.     Nixon  led  all  receivers  in  the  game  with  seven  receptions  for  110  yards.     Junior  Anthony  Hughes  paced  the  UAM  defense  with  13  total  tackles.  Senior  Calvin  Ursin  also  reached  double-‐digits  with  10  tackles,  including  one  sack  and  two  tackles  for   losses.  GAC  tackles  leader  Keith  Reynolds  finished  the  night  with  nine  tackles  and  an  assisted  tackle  for  loss.

GAME  5  RECAP:  UAM  34,  Arkansas  Tech  0 MONTICELLO  –  The  University  of  Arkansas  at   Monticello  football  team  secured  its  first  shutout   victory  over  a  conference  opponent  for  the  first   time  since  1995  in  defeating  Arkansas  Tech  34-‐0   on  Saturday  (10/5/13)  in  a  weather-‐delayed   game.       The  last  shutout  for  the  Weevils  over  a   conference  opponent  was  a  17-‐0  win  over   Mississippi  College  at  home  in  UAM's  first  season   as  a  member  of  the  NCAA  Division  II  Gulf  South   Conference.     Saturday's  game  was  delayed  due  to  a   thunderstorm  for  just  under  two  hours  midway   through  the  third  quarter  with  UAM  leading  17-‐ 0.     The  Weevils  (3-‐2,  3-‐2  Great  American   Conference)  held  the  ball  for  just  over  12   minutes  of  the  first  period  and  led  7-‐0  with  a   four-‐yard  touchdown  run  fromjunior  Rod  Smith   at  the  10:21  mark  of  the  opening  quarter  to  cap   a  14-‐play,75-‐yard  drive  that  used  4:39.     Tech  (2-‐3,  2-‐2  GAC)  appeared  to  have  tied  the   game  with  5:36  remaining  in  the  second  quarter   when  Ketrich  Harmon  broke  free  for  a  43-‐yard   run  up  the  middle,  but  UAM  senior  safety   Deshaun  Thomas  caught  up  to  Harmon  at  the   UAM  five-‐yard  line  and  forced  a  fumble  to   negate  the  score.  Sophomore  Demarcus   Robinson  was  there  to  recover  the  loose  ball.     Neither  team  reached  the  scoreboard  until  UAM   strung  together  10  quick  points  in  the  final   minute  of  the  first  half.  A  career  high-‐tying  43-‐ yard  field  goal  from  freshman  Jamie  McGee  with   58  seconds  remaining  put  UAM  up  10-‐0.  On   ATU's  ensuing  possession,  Demarcus  Robinson   tallied  his  third  interception  of  theseason  and   returned  the  ball  19  yards  to  the  ATU  nine-‐yard   line.  Two  plays  later,  UAM  took  a  17-‐0  lead  on  a   four-‐yard  touchdown  pass  from  sophomore  Cody   Trimble  to  junior  Austin  Morgan  with  16  seconds   remaining  until  halftime.     UAM  forced  ATU's  third  turnover  of  the  game  in   the  third  quarter,  stripping  the  ball  away  from   Tech's  Deandre  Bonner  on  a  punt  return  to  set   up  the  Weevils  at  the  ATU  20-‐yard  line.     Weather  became  a  factor  at  that  point,  as  the   game  was  delayed  due  to  lightning  in  the  area   with  UAM  sitting  on  a  fourth-‐and-‐goal  situation   at  the  one-‐yardline.  The  one-‐hour,  fifty-‐five   minute  delay  left  the  field  at  Cotton  Boll  Stadium   drenched  from  a  thunderstorm  that  passed   through  Monticello.     When  play  resumed,  UAM  took  a  24-‐0  lead  on  the  first  play  on  a  one-‐yard  touchdown  run  from  sophomore  Nick  Williams.  After  forcing  a  three-‐and-‐out  on  Tech's  next   possession,  UAM  marched  58-‐yards  on  eight  plays  and  took  a  27-‐0  lead  on  a  30-‐yard  field  goal  from  McGee  from  the  hold  of  junior  Ian  Levine.     UAM  capitalized  on  another  ATU  turnover  in  the  fourth  quarter  to  score  the  final  touchdown.  A  botched  ATU  snap  was  recovered  by  UAM  junior  defensive  lineman  Jalen   Garmon  at  the  ATU  38-‐yard  line.  Five  plays  later,  UAM  took  its  final  34-‐0  lead  on  a  two-‐yard  touchdown  run  from  Nick  Williams  with  10:43  remaining  in  regulation.     UAM's  defense  kept  the  shutout  intact  by  holding  the  Wonder  Boys  on  afourth-‐and-‐four  situation  inside  the  UAM  10-‐yard  line  with  just  over  three  minutes  remaining  and   forcing  a  four-‐and-‐out  on  ATU's  final  possession  with  just  under  one  minute  left  on  the  clock.     The  Weevils  outgained  ATU  392-‐178  and  ran  nearly  twice  as  many  plays  at  95-‐53.  UAM  racked  up  a  season-‐high  236  rushing  yards  on  66  attempts  and  added  another  156  yards   through  the  air.  Tech  was  limited  to  155  rushing  yards  and  just  23  yards  through  the  air.  UAM  limited  ATU  to  just  one  third  down  conversion  on  12  attempts.  The  Weevils  were   9-‐for-‐20  in  the  category  and  a  perfect  5-‐for-‐5  inside  the  red  zone.     Junior  Rod  Smith  became  the  first  UAM  rusher  to  eclipse  the  100-‐yard  mark  in  a  game  this  season  and  the  first  since  2008  to  have  at  least  30  carries  in  a  game  with  32  carries  for   106  yards  in  the  win  over  ATU.  Freshman  quarterback  Brett  Courville  added  82  yards  on  just  10  carries  in  his  relief  role  in  the  second  half.     Sophomore  Colton  Morrison  led  UAM's  passing  attack,  going  13-‐for-‐20  through  the  air  for  118  yards.  Junior  Skyler  Scott  was  the  favorite  target  with  five  receptions  for  57  yards.   Senior  Jamal  Nixon  and  Rod  Smith  each  added  four  receptions.  Nixon  had  42  yards  and  Smith  had  19.     Defensively,  UAM's  numbers  were  spread  out  throughout  the  team  with  sophomore  George  Alvarez  leading  the  way  with  seven  total  tackles,  including  one  tackle  for  a  loss.   Senior  Calvin  Ursin  added  six  tackles  in  the  win.
