Our Staff: Matt Newton Matt is a co-founder of EPIC goaltending. Growing up in Wausau, WI, he played 2 years of Varsity hockey for the Wausau West Warriors and enjoyed a short stint in Junior Hockey following his High School Career. Matt has been coaching youth hockey in Eau Claire for the past 9 years and is always researching new ways to improve as a coach. During the summers he helps coach the local AAA program and donates as much time as possible to improving the skills of every goaltender he can. In season, Matt also assisted in training Chippewa youth goalies. Mick Podruch Mick is the other co-founder of EPIC. Mick has been coaching goaltenders for the past 10 seasons and is also a coach in the Eau Claire Youth Program. He has extensive training in the hybrid style, and worked with many goalies that now play junior hockey. He also helps coach the local AAA program during the summer months and does private lessons during the season. Mick is continuously looking to improve his skills and help goalies reach the next level. With this dedication, Mick always brings the most intuitive techniques and teaching tools to the EPIC camp. Bryce Kamenick Bryce is a former EPIC Camp participant and former Eau Claire North Goalie. While playing for Eau Claire North Bryce set single season save records in all 4 years as a varsity goalie (906, 1037, 1155, 1197). After high school Bryce played two season of Junior Hockey for the Steel County Blades (MNJHL) and the Minnesota Iron Rangers (SIJHL). Sam Farber Sam is another former EPIC goaltender and Eau Claire North Alumni. While at Eau Claire North Sam followed Bryce’s lead and holds the 5th spot for single season saves at 742. Sam is also 4th in career shutouts (8), 6th in career wins (24), and 5th in single season wins (15). Sam also holds the single season shutout record for North (5). He now coaches goalies at the youth level while attending UWEC. Sam Nelson Sam started all four years of high school for both Eau Claire North and Regis/McDonnell. After high school he spent three years in juniors (Minnesota Owls, Rochester Ice Hawks, and Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings). His efforts landed him a starting position for Concordia College in Minnesota as a freshman. During his 2016-2017, Sam lead the league in saves (694) and save percentage (.927), and earned a spot on the allconference first team. His work ethic is unmatched, and he’s the first goalie Mick had the opportunity to coach.
