Kevin White, Jr., Loyola (Wooster, OH)
Loyola junior Kevin White punched his ticket to the NCAA West Regional this past Friday at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic in Madison, Wis. The Wooster, Ohio native rolled to victory in the 800m run with a time of 1:47.87, the second fastest mark in school history. White, who made his regional debut last season, currently holds the top 800m time in the Missouri Valley Conference and ranks 11th in the NCAA West Region.

MVC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Jared Kern, Sr., Southern Illinois (Machesney Park, Ill.)
Jared Kern had a tremendous weekend in the circle for the Salukis. The Machesney Park, Ill. native broke both the school and the conference shot put record at the Billy Hayes Invitational this past weekend. Kern threw 66’-10.50” (20.38m) Friday to break Josh Freeman’s 2015 school record of 66’-1.50” and Curtis Jensen’s 2014 MVC record of 66’-8.50”. Kern was the top collegiate finisher Friday and finished second to 2016 Olympic silver medalist Joe Kovacs. Kern’s toss, meanwhile, moved him up to third regionally and nationally.

MVC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Brette Correy, Sr., UNI (Epworth, Iowa)
Brette Correy won the 800 meter run at the Wisconsin Twilight. Correy covered the 800 meters in 2:06.65 – the best time this spring in the Missouri Valley Conference. Correy’s time also ranks as the 25th-best time in the NCAA West Region.

MVC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week Sarah Pate, Sr., UNI (Osceola, Iowa)
Sarah Pate took home first-place honors in the hammer throw with a heave of 205’0” at the Wisconsin Twilight. Pate currently ranks No. 14 in the NCAA West Region and ranks as the best in the Missouri Valley Conference heading into the conference meet this week.

MVC OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD WEEKLY RELEASE u Noteworthy In addition to the league’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week selections, several other notable performances are recongnized, and they include: MEN’S TRACK Jack Anstey, Illinois State At Friday’s Wisconsin Twilight meet, hosted by Wisconsin, Anstey recorded an impressive performance in the 800-meter run, clocking in at a personal-best 1:49.56 to finish second. Not only does his time rank sixth on the Redbirds’ top-10 list, but it is currently second in the Valley and 28th in the NCAA West region. Heading into this weekend’s MVC Championships, Anstey also owns the top Valley-mark in the 1,500-meter with a time 3:43.22 that he captured at the Stanford Invitational on March 30, 2018. His time ranks 24th in the NCAA West region as well. Akis Medrano, Indiana State Last weekend at the Drake Relays, Akis Medrano entered the ISU top-five in the men’s 5K, and on Friday at IU Medrano entered the top-five in the men’s 1500-meter run. Running in the fast section, he finished third overall with the fourth-best time in school history at 3:45.24 which is also third in the conference and right outside of the regional top-48 at 51st. Connor Ham, UNI Connor Ham captured the 110-meter high hurdles crown at the Wisconsin Twilight. Ham covered the hurdles in :14.09, which is the third-best time this season in the Missouri Valley Conference. Ham’s time in the 110 hurdles in Madison ranks as the No. 21 time in the NCAA West Region this spring.
MEN’S FIELD Ryan Ashenbremer, Illinois State At Friday’s Wisconsin Twilight meet, hosted by Wisconsin, Ashenbremer won his third pole vault competition of the outdoor campaign, clearing a personal-best 5.12m (16-09.50). His mark, which ranks fifth alltime in Redbird track and field history, sits him atop the Valley. Ashenbremer also increased his chances of qualifying for the NCAA West preliminary round, as he currently ranks 41st in the NCAA West region. Hunter Schuman, Indiana State Throwing to a new personal-best mark in the shot put at IU was senior Hunter Schuman. Placing fifth overall, Schuman unleashed a throw of 17.30m (5609.25) which moves him into scoring position in the conference, with the eight-best mark overall. Isaac Holtz, UNI Isaac Holtz won the discus throw at the Wisconsin Twilight. Holtz’s throw of 185’0” is the longest this season in the Missouri Valley Conference. Holtz ranks No. 14 in the NCAA West Region and No. 32 in all of Division I in the discus this spring.

Her time puts her third all-time in school history behind only Stacia Weatherford and Carmelia Stewart, and keeps her at second in the MVC. Lindsey Brewis, Loyola Loyola junior Lindsey Brewis cruised to victory in the 1,500m run at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic last Friday in Madison, Wis. Out of Dearborn, Mich., Brewis checked in at 4:29.44, the eighth fastest time in program history. She currently sits eighth in the MVC in the event and also holds the conference’s top 5,000m run time of 16:14.16.

Bri’Anna Branch, Southern Illinois Branch ran a season-best 23.98 to win the 200 meter dash for the first time this season at the Billy Hayes Invitational. The Chicago, Ill. native added to her top-3 conference marks with her time over the weekend, as she now ranks third in the conference in the 200m and is second in the 100m.

Julia Bourke, Illinois State At Friday’s Wisconsin Twilight meet, hosted by Wisconsin, Julia Bourke eclipsed the 60-meter mark in the hammer throw for the first time of her career. She posted a personal-best for the second-straight week, recording a heave of 60.26m (197-08) to finish second. With the throw, Bourke ranks third in the Valley and 26th in the NCAA West region. She also sits third on Illinois State’s all-time top-10 list. Cassaundra Roper, Indiana State After a week of Cassaundra Roper earned the highest finish of the day for the in the field for the Sycamore women, taking second in the shot put with a throw of 15.29m (50-02.00). Roper’s mark of 15.55m (51-00.25) from Auburn is sitting in second in the MVC and 30th in the NCAA East Region. Kiera Washpun, Loyola Loyola senior Kiera Washpun narrowly missed out on a season-best performance in the long jump this past Friday at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic in Madison, Wis. The Iowa City, Iowa product notched a top leap of 19-02.50 (5.85m) to ultimately finish fourth overall. Washpun enters the league meet ranked sixth (1903.25; 5.87m) in the MVC in the event. Shauniece O’Neal, Southern Illinois Shauniece O’Neal set a PR in the hammer throw for the second-straight meet, as she threw 192’-4” (58.62m) to finish third at the Billy Hayes Invitational. The Florissant, Mo. native ranks 37th in the NCAA West Region, and fourth in the Valley, in the event. More specifically it is the ninth-best toss by a freshman in the NCAA this season and she now has 16 throws that have surpassed the USATF Junior Championship standard of 177’-2” (54m).

WOMEN’S TRACK Hattie Plumb, Illinois State At Friday’s Wisconsin Twilight meet, hosted by Wisconsin, Plumb ran a solid race in the 800-meter run, finishing third with a time of 2:09.70. Her mark was nearly a personal-best. Plumb’s time of 2:09.31 that she captured at the Virginia Challenge on April 20, 2018, still ranks third in the Valley and 74th in the NCAA West region.
