Overwhelmed Part 4 - Oh, Brother! Where art thou? 1 Kings 19:1-18 1. What was most meaningful, memorable or challenging to you from the message this week? 2. When have you experienced God’s faithfulness in helping you through past difficult circumstances? 3. Finish this statement: When I start to get stressed, I . . . (e.g., eat, pray, am less productive at work, get short with my family, exercise, can’t concentrate) 4. In 1 Kings 17-18, God shows his faithfulness to Elijah on several occasions. But later on, Elijah allowed stress to crowd out the memories of God’s past faithfulness. What can you do to remember God’s past faithfulness during your present times of stress? 5. Read 1 Kings 19:1-18. Elijah allowed his stress to drive him to places he should never have gone. What is the worst place that stress has taken you? 6. Elijah forgot to recognize the presence of God in his life and as a result, disengaged from his current reality. What can you do to remind yourself that God is present in your life? 7. What would your life look like if you remembered God’s past faithfulness and trusted His future provision in times of stress?
THINK ABOUT IT Stress... it’s here to stay. But it doesn’t have to drive us to places emotionally, spiritually, physically, and relationally we should never go. When we remember God’s past faithfulness and trust His future provision, it changes our perspective. And that makes all the difference.
WHAT WILL YOU DO? God’s invitation to us every day is to go back: go back and remember what He’s done for us in the past, and allow that to fuel our trust in His future provision. How can you remind yourself of God’s past faithfulness in your life?
CHANGING YOUR MIND ... And the word of the LORD came to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:9
