This week The children have made a good start to the new term. They have met the characters in the traditional tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and have become wonderful story tellers, using the repetitive language and a variety of props, to retell the story in their own words. They have been building different houses using a wide variety of materials and designing a new home for the ‘Three Little Pigs’. They felt it was important to warn other people about the Big bad Wolf and have been making wanted posters so that everyone is on the lookout for the big bad wolf.

Homework Complete the homework activities and return to school on Wednesday in the blue homework folder please. 

Word Challenge. Keep learning all the words sent home so far. Look for them in books as well as reading them in isolation.

Reading. Please continue to hear your child regularly and record it each time in their blue book when you hear them read. It is essential that you keep their reading books in their book bags EVERY DAY so they can read their books in school. You will notice the children will be bringing home some lovely new reading books. These have been funded by the School Association and are a fabulous new resource. Please ensure your child looks after them and returns them to school in good condition so they last for years to come.

My home. Next week we will be looking at ‘Our Homes’. Please complete the homework sheet with your child and chat about their home. Look at the windows, doors, roof, house type. Encourage the use of vocabulary so that your child is able to talk about their own home in class. Add a photo to the worksheet or ask your child to draw a picture of their home. They will be using this to paint a picture of their home.

Next week We are looking for materials for our builder’s yard. If you have any building or decorating materials such as wall paper, plastic pipes, foam pipe lagging, nuts and bolts, oddments of wood, tape measures etc, we would really appreciate them as we embark on our building project with the three Pigs. Help wanted! Are you in the building trade? Would you be happy to come and chat briefly to the children about your job? Show them the tools you use? Please contact the class teachers as soon as possible thank you.

Visit the library. What other traditional tales can they find with three characters? Which one is their favourite story? Look at information books. Are the story characters like real pigs and wolves? How are they the same? How are they different? Can they build words with 3 phonemes? Use the phonemes they have learnt so far on their phoneme frames from the workshop to reinforce the sounds with 2 letters. Eg. cat, not, can, pan, put. sock, thin, king

The children have been set tricky challenges and then talked about how they felt when a task was difficult. We discussed what we could do when things are difficult, for example ask for help. It is important for the children to realise that sometimes learning is challenging and that it is alright to make mistakes. We need to persevere and try not to get angry.
