Wednesday, 23 November 16 Dear Parent/Carers, Proposal for The James Cambell Primary School to Convert to Academy Status

1. Introduction The James Cambell Primary School’s Governing Body has decided to embark upon a process which may lead to conversion to academy status. The Governing Body passed a resolution to begin the process on 7th November 2016. This resolution starts a period of investigation and consultation – it is not a final decision to convert. Any final decision would only be made after a further governors’ meeting at the end of the consultation period. The target date for conversion to take effect is 1st March 2017. The proposal is that The James Cambell Primary School converts into an academy under the umbrella of Partnership Learning, the local charitable trust which already oversees Sydney Russell School, Eastbury Primary School, the new Greatfields School in Barking and four schools on Thames View: Riverside School, Riverside Bridge (Special) School, Riverside Primary School and Thames View Junior School. The formal consultation period runs from Monday 14th November 2016 to 12 noon on Friday 27th January 2017. During this period the Governing Body will give all key stakeholders the opportunity to give their views and ask questions, including all staff and their recognised trade unions, parents, pupils, local schools and others.

2. The Background The Governing Body took the decision to embark upon the conversion process and potentially join Partnership Learning for two main reasons: i.

The opportunities which academy status within Partnership Learning will give to play a leading role in a growing group of local secondary, primary and special schools.

ii.

The support which the school will be able to access, as it continues its journey of improvement, by being part of a group of forward-thinking schools across age-phases and types.

3. Partnership Learning Partnership Learning is a local charitable trust which currently oversees seven Barking and Dagenham schools. Partnership Learning is committed to playing a full part in the local family of schools and adhering to: - National pay and conditions - Local union agreements - Local Authority pupil admissions criteria

4. Consultation As parents, you are invited to give your views on the academy conversion proposal, and to ask any questions you may have, at any time during the consultation period, by email to [email protected] or by post to the school addressed to ‘Academy Consultation’. For more information, please see the ‘Academy Conversion’ section on the school website. There will also be a drop-in information session at which all parents are welcome to ask questions and give their views, open to all, on Tuesday 6th December in the Dining Hall at the school from 4pm – 7pm.

Yours Sincerely,

Bob Wake Chair of Governors, The James Cambell Primary School
