C LASS R EPRESENTATIVES Class representatives will be determined shortly after school begins. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in representing your child’s class. Class Representatives’ primary duties are to:
SERVE as the liaison between the teachers and the parents in the class. Please discuss with your teachers what role they’d like you to play. Examples of activities include assisting in life cycle events (see list on page 4), communication with parents about class activities, purchasing supplies and/or food for classroom programs, and so on.
SERVE as the liaison between the school/administration/PA and the parents in the class. Help send out communications from the PA to your class when necessary.
PROVIDE as many parents as possible the opportunity to participate when volunteers are requested.
ORGANIZE, with the help of other parents, full grade social(s) throughout the year – include all classes in your grade [CORE & PALS].
WELCOME new families – if a new student joins the class once the school year has commenced, call to welcome and offer help and information about the class. Email the class to inform them of the new addition and to please reach out for play dates or an invitation over to meet the family.
SERVE as a liaison to the Chesed Committee (e.g., let the Committee know when someone had a baby, if your teacher got engaged, if something is happening where the family could possibly use a meal, etc.)
DO NOT become involved in personal matters between parents and teachers.

LIFE CYCLE EVENTS Each grade has a life cycle event (or siyyum – see list below). •
BUDGET = The PA will allocate a specific amount of money for your grade to cover the food and necessary supplies for all the events during the year. For any purchases made on behalf of the class, parents should send in receipts and a PA reimbursement form to the main office – write on the envelope, Attention: PA. A reimbursement form can be found in the PA section on the school portal.
•
FOOD: o For any given event, please supply a drink (water, juice), one fruit, one snack (i.e. pretzels, crackers, cheese) and one treat to be shared with the grade. o Must follow kashrut rules of Carmel Academy o Must ABSOLUTELY not include any nuts of any kind o Must not include bread (no bagels or croissants) – in the interest of time, we try to avoid necessitating the saying of HaMotzi and then Birkat HaMazon o Please refer to the Carmel Parent Handbook for Kashrut and allergy policies
•
NO SIBLINGS PLEASE o Please remind parents that these life cycle events are more than just a presentation to the parents. Often the events include break-out learning sessions or smaller group presentations. To be fair to the children who are performing and presenting, it’s crucial that we respect the kids and respect the classes.
