Date: June 7, 2015 Message: Now You See Me Scripture: John 5:39-40 Speaker: Dave Woods
What Jesus had to say about the authority of Scripture! [Mark 7: 1 - 13.] 1. Scripture is of divine origin! “You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” Mark 7:8.
Scripture is of divine origin and tradition is of human origin! 2. Scripture is God honoring! (Tradition usually honors man.) “ ‘ . . . in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ Mark 7:7 (Isaiah 29:13; Ezekiel 33:31)
What Jesus did was to put tradition in its rightful place. 3. Scripture is of the highest importance! (Tradition is secondary!) “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition . . . making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.” Mark 7: 9; 13
