Break Free from the Cultures of More
Not long before Hurricane Harvey, I enjoyed the view from the 181 overpass just outside of Gregory. One can see the patchwork of fields, crisscrossed by farm roads. It reminds me of the importance of farmers and calls me to offer thanks to God for earth’s abundance. It brings to mind a quilt entitled “Ministry” that my mother-in-law crafted for me. Every piece is unique, yet together they create a beautiful pattern. CCFUMC is like that quilt. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” Together we are the body of Christ, each with different gifts from the Spirit, each needed for our shared ministry. Like those fields seen from the overpass, we’ve got folks working different crops, at distinct stages of growth, using a variety of tools, some going strong, some just hitting their peak, some needing a hand, some just about done, changing with the seasons, but all fitting into the whole. As that view of the fields moves me to thank God, so do the people and ministries of CCFUMC. I thank God for the opportunity to serve as your pastor. May the Spirit bind us together, using our gifts in complementary ways as we go about learning, loving, and living Christ! Pastor Pamela Dykehouse
