Fintech Debate: Friend or Foe? Nikko Ballroom The role of Fintechs in the payments space evolves as new innovations and payment mechanisms are created. It seems a new advancement is introduced weekly. But are Fintechs a threat to the traditional financial institution or do they represent the possibility of helping the FI by offering enhanced services to their customers? In some instances the Fintech might be looking to the FI as a partnership opportunity. And is it possible the FI itself may be acting in the role of the Fintech, possibly creating a scenario where the FI is disintermediating itself? As the debate continues the issue of security regarding compliance issues remains, particularly as some Fintechs become pseudo-FIs but may not be held to the same security standards and requirements. This lively debate brings together industry stakeholders who share their thoughts with the Membership, encouraging an interactive debate on the way Fintechs are looked at today and how they may be perceived in the future. Speakers: JP Nicols, Managing Director, Fintech Forge, Dan Rosen, Founder, Commerce Ventures, Chris Chazin, Director, Product Head, Emerging Payments & Channels, N.A. Payments & Receivables, Citibank and Jim Hale, Founding General Partner, FTV Capital Moderator: Shawn Princell, President, Cash Flow Solutions

discussion focuses on deposit disintermediation. Consumers are funding nontraditional accounts such as ApplePay, Venmo or similar accounts, seemingly making them proxy DDAs. But these accounts do not have the same regulatory requirements as an FI-based account. Does this change the playing field regarding the role of the FI? Do consumers care? How can FIs and Fintechs work together to create a solution that works for all the players in a transaction and can be done to mitigate a potential threat to business practices and the reputation of the organization. How will blockchain impact this topic?

In the B2B invoice-to-cash process, payments and remittance advice from a customer are almost always submitted through different channels. Consequently, an accounts receivable department is left with the challenge of reconciling payments to invoices in order to recognize revenue and close books. This B2B reconciliation is compounded with complexity because of the myriad of billing accounts and invoices corporate

In the wake of news of an industry breach some organizations have begun to reconsider their authentication processes when transacting business. How can a merchant feel certainty around authenticating an identity and ensure the person with whom they are doing business is the same person that individual is purporting to be?
So you’ve heard all about how ISO 20022 is utilized today but what about in 2022? What will the future look like as we move towards standardization? Can we bring together messaging capabilities and APIs? And if so, what will that look like? This lively discussion will focus on the forecast in 2022, and address what hurdles we may need to overcome to get there.

The biggest change in European data security in two decades is drawing near with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). EU-based or multinational corporations and financial institutions may believe they are prepared to be fully compliant by May of 2018 but are they? What if you are a U.S. based company? Did you know that your company is subject to these new requirements if you have a web presence and collect behavioral information or personal data from consumers in the EU?

How to Care for Your Customers During a Disaster
This assembly will provide members with an update regarding the most recent efforts of this Alliancesponsored group. The API Standardization Industry Group (ASIG) is a diverse group of organizations and individuals working to support advancement and use of standardized APIs within the U.S. financial services industry by developing a standards framework, or “API Playbook” that will: (1) improve the safety and transparency of transactions, (2) automate and increase speed of processes and communications, (3) promote efficiencies, effectiveness and reach for all stakeholders, and (4) enhance support of payments innovations. This session will be led by members of the Alliance API Industry Group leadership team.
Have you ever used a Quick Start Guide that enabled you to use technology or complete a task in just a few minutes without being overwhelmed? Would an ACH Quick Start Guide help businesses more easily use ACH if it provided only the most relevant information presented in easy-tounderstand language that relates to their processes and needs? Could such a tool perfectly augment the NACHA Operating Rules? Development of an ACH Quick Start Guide is a concept NACHA wants to explore as part of its efforts to reduce friction and make using ACH easier. This initiative is being jumpstarted through the Payments Innovation Alliance and we need your help. How do you use Quick Start Guides and similar tools, and how can you apply those experiences along with your ideas to scope out what an ACH
Nikko Ballroom II The slew of large-scale disasters in 2017 taught us all the importance of being prepared for the worst. Business continuity planning and disaster recovery were topics being widely discussed across the financial industry. But, the planning goes beyond business functions. While it is crucial the flow of payments not be interrupted, it is just as important to communicate with corporate and consumer clients who are also impacted by the disasters. This discussion centers on what organizations did to help take care of their customers even when it was possible they too were impacted. The role of faster payment capabilities and the benefits of using those will also be addressed. Additionally, examples of IoT technology solutions such as Tesla increasing battery power
