Pearland Oiler Caddie Club Scholarship Fund

The Pearland High School Girls and Boys Golf Team Booster Club, also known as the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club, has established a Scholarship Fund to assist student athletes in continuing their education. The Caddie Club shall allocate 20% of its annual fundraising profits for the present school year to this fund. Two types of scholarships are awarded at the year-end banquet, Participation Scholarship and Leadership Scholarship. The Participation Scholarship rules are outlined in the following pages of this packet. The Leadership Scholarship is awarded based on the sole discretion of the Pearland High School Oiler Golf coaches. The Participation Scholarship is capped at $1,000 per student. The Leadership Scholarship is capped at $500 per student. A student can receive both scholarships. The dollar amount of individual scholarships may change based on number of candidates and available funds. Whereas the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club desires to acknowledge the contributions of our graduating seniors and whereas the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club wishes to provide encouragement for our graduating seniors to continue their education and whereas all scholarships, gifts, or other acknowledgements provided by the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club to our graduating seniors are subject to the rules and regulations of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and/or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Pearland Oiler Caddie Club assumes no responsibility for violations associated with receipt of college scholarship funds that may violate any NCAA, NJCAA, or NAIA regulations. Any senior who qualifies yet cannot accept a scholarship due to NCAA, NJCAA, or NAIA regulations will be acknowledged by the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club as an honorary scholarship recipient. Scholarship recipients are required to submit proof of enrollment, via transcript, tuition fees, receipt of payment, or other documentation from the college, before funds can be dispersed. All scholarship checks will be made payable to the appropriate college in the name of the PHS/RTHS graduating senior or to the individual who pre-paid for the tuition fees. Proof of payment is required. Recipients should provide the Pearland High School Book Keeper the contact information for the college financial aid office or the student/parent to which the funds should be disbursed. Scholarship recipients have 12 months from date of award notification to claim these funds.

Pearland Oiler Caddie Club Participation Scholarship Eligibility, Selection & Disbursement Rules The Pearland Oiler Caddie Club is pleased to offer Participation Scholarships to seniors that meet the criteria outlined below. Our goal is to encourage and assist a student who participated in the Pearland High School Oiler Golf program whose wish is to continue their studies at a four year college, junior college, or a trade/technical school. We encourage all seniors who fit the eligibility criteria to apply. It is the participant’s responsibility to determine eligibility for accepting a scholarship from the college you will be attending prior to applying for the Participation Scholarship. If you accept a full scholarship, academic or athletic, you are not eligible to receive these funds. If are receiving any type of scholarship from the college, you should check with the college’s compliance office prior to applying to make sure you are eligible to receive additional athletic scholarship funds. All scholarships awarded by the Caddie Club are considered athletic scholarships as current athletic participation is an eligibility requirement. The Participation Scholarship opportunities are under the supervision of the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club Scholarship Committee that is comprised of members of the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club. The Participation Scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria: 1. Must be a graduating student of Pearland HS or Robert Turner HS. 2. Must have participated on the Golf Team for a minimum of two years and in good standing. 3. Must be college bound and without a full athletic or academic scholarship. 4. Minimum GPA of 2.75 at the end of the fall semester of senior year. 5. Letter of recommendation from a current or past teacher. 6. Letter of recommendation from a member of the community. 7. 200-300 word, double-spaced, 12 pt font, typed essay on what golf means to you.       

8. Parent/Guardian of student must have paid a minimum of two years of Pearland Oiler Caddie Club membership dues and be an active volunteer of the Pearland Oiler Caddie Club. 9. Coaches Evaluation.

Student’s ID number should be present on each page; handwritten or typed.

All requirements must be completed in full in order to be considered. Sealed applications must be returned to the coach’s office or scholarship committee by April 21, 2017. Late applicants are ineligible to receive scholarship funds. Applicants will be judged on an anonymous, nameless basis by an outside committee not affiliated with the Pearland High School Golf Program or its members.
