Penzance News - Monday 27th June by Amelia and Daniel Everyone arrived on time, ready for the drive to Cornwall. We were all a bag of emotions, happy, sad, anxious and excited. We waved to our mums and dads as the bus drove off. This was followed by a long journey of one and half hours to the Eden Project. The bus was loud, because everyone was excited about going on a five day residential. When we got to the Eden Project we spit up into four groups and set off on our adventure. As we approached the entrance we saw two gigantic golf ballshaped objects sitting in the middle of what looked like a nature park. When we walked down the slope towards the large domes there was a lot of chattering and giggling.

We met a guide called Kate, who helped us find the classroom and we walked across a high bridge which had fantastic views of the domes. Then suddenly a man came shooting across the sky looking like superman! It was a visitor zipping along a Zip-wire, which went from a tall cliff to a tower. We carried on down the hill and walked past another school. We approached the classroom door and Kate then told us about how the Eden Project was transformed from a deep canyon into a plant haven. We then went down the hill and explored the Mediterranean Biome. There was a lot of fuss about how hot it was, but little did we know what the heat was going to be like in the Rainforest Biome! We then got stuck into our luscious lunch and had some free time to talk and play on our gadgets. After lunch we had our two hour workshop with a leader called Robby. We learned about Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. We found out about how different creatures change through different stages in life. To help us with this learning we then had a session in the rainforest Biome to discover how the

plants had evolved and adapted to their environments. We were split into 4 groups and went on an adventure trail.

On the way there we saw a large sculpture called the WEEE Man! He was made of recycled electronics and pieces of metal. We also saw a giant bee which looked so real. In the rainforest itself we saw lots of different species of plants and found out what their interdependent animal was. There were species of plants like the Banyan Tree and Knobthorn Tree! Half way up the trail it go so humid that we all wanted to squeeze into this room called the Cool Room. Unfortunately when we came out of the room it felt hotter than ever. As we went on the trail we passed a cool, breezy waterfall and we headed back towards the shop. We were faced with a blast of amazing chilling air when we entered the shop, as the outside temperature was so much cooler, so that it felt like Antarctica. Then we spent half an hour in the workshop when we recapped our education learnt in the big bubble. We then entered the gift shop and excitement was buzzing around us. We all split up in different directions and some of us bought some gifts. At 4.30pm we set off on our final journey to the Youth Hostel called Castle Horneck. After arriving we washed our hands and came down for dinner. We had the choice of chilli and rice, or jacket potatoes with cheese or ham. Daniel said the dinner was rated 10 out of 10 and was the best ever! For pudding we had a choice of vanilla or strawberry ice-cream, or apple crumble with custard. After dinner we hurried up to our rooms, made our beds then went out to play for a while. Finally we went to bed and lights went out for the night.
