“Boots on the ground staff” lead the way

Strong community “boots on the ground”

Weekly navigation meetings

VA collaboration

Collaborative Housing Authority

Community priority for veterans

Landlord fairs- “Valor Landlord “ Awards

Used our BNL and Data to identify directions

Diversity of county geographically

Resistance to a Coordinated system

Momentum surges and wanes

Key volunteer CES / BNL staff ,as well as leadership, unable to continue to maintain commitment

Tragedy in our community affected momentum

No such thing as fail

Troubleshooting

 Barriers - Patterns -Points of resistance - Points of acceptance  Using these to brain storm resolutions  ie if resistant to male, bring in a female staff, if resistant to county staff or a VA employee bring in non-profit, etc

Must assess the outreach service focus

It’s not a large group,

“the homeless” ,

with common factors, it is a individual household with a Housing Crisis

One veteran at a Time!

It’s an individual households’ crisis… in all its uniqueness.

Focusing on the homeless globally, limits the ability to address the individual.

Goals

Barriers Hope

Home Plans Needs Self Dignity

Being Homeless, for any reason … robs an individual of dignity … … of self worth. Day by day, time after time, it strips it away

Hope Soon they have No Hope things can be different Staff must Hold the Hope for them, that things can change

Outreach

› Coordinated and collaborative

Navigation – collaborative

Landlord

› Landlord sharing › Landlord coordinated events

Warm hand offs to housing providers

Ongoing data review and updates

Only local community reaching the goal

Hundreds of veterans in surrounding areas remain living on the streets

Point in time showed more homeless then BNL  Multiple collaborative outreach events held  Self reported veterans – many are Not veterans

 Documenting those coming from other areas  Developing local housing preference  Continuing to house every veteran

 Data Use data to show system strengths and weakness i  Keep outreach/navigation teams actively involved  Leadership needs someone with a fulltime focus  Remember - don’t panic when numbers increase! › Its not about the numbers  Numbers fluctuate, its part of the process.  Identify why it is fluctuating, through review of data and discussion with field staff › Its about developing a process that houses veterans

 Positive › System works - You know how to do this! CES BNL  Challenges › Different Housing options › New partners  Who do not know how to do this  Who have differing opinions  Who may not want a coordinated system  Who may not believe in Housing First  Hard conversations … still!! › But who may also have new vision, new focus, new energy! Hear their voice .
