Presid ent, Treasu rer an d Recruitment Ch air Tra vel to Memphi s for Ch apter Executi ves Conferen ce Rick Gombotz (President), Joe Feather (Treasurer) and Jake Steed (Recruitment) recently returned from Memphis, TN after attending the annual Chapter Executives Conference from January 1013, 2013. Rick recapped the trip as follows: “The trip to Memphis was extremely beneficial for Joe Jake and me, as well as the Gamma Xi Chapter as a whole. Upon arrival we met with Ben Boden, the head of Alumni Relations, and then Franco Tavera, our Chapter

Consultant. The educational tracks we followed for our positions provided all three of us with much more knowledge on our positions along with new ideas of how to improve the operations of the fraternity as a whole. Throughout the trip we met many other Pikes from Chapters all across the country. Along with this, we all got a chance to see the national headquarters, which was super interesting and attend a Memphis Grizzly game with many fellow Pikes. Overall,

the trip was fun, educational, and most of all a great experience that we will never forget!” The Conference, held at the historic Peabody Hotel in Memphis, is designed specifically for presidents, treasurers and recruitment chairmen and not only teaches Pike’s best practices, but provides education on effective leadership and motivation. Pike’s best and brightest will leave empowered and motivated to create change within their chapters.

Spring 2013 Ru sh Upd ate Recruitment Chairman, Jake Steed, and assistant Bill Castrow, are off to a strong Spring 2013 campaign. During the month of January they pledged 4 quality young men and are actively pursu-

ing another 3 potential recruits. Gamma Xi’s goal is to pledge and initiate 16 quality young men in Spring 2013, and pledge at least another 20 over summer break.

The conference is divided into educational tracks for each different officer (president, treasurer, and recruitment chairman), as well as a host of general sessions. The Alumni Association, via the Gamma Xi and Phil Lighty endowments, contributed $2,000 towards the travel costs associated with the trip.

25th Annual Golf Tournament Set for July 13th Attention all golfers, the 25th annual Gamma Xi Alumni Association golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11am. The tournament will be held at the Willow Run Golf Course in Redmond, WA. The tournament includes two competition formats, a Scramble (best shot of the foursome) or Best Ball (best score of the foursome) . The tournament is limited to 64 Spots/16 foursomes, so

Alumni and Undergrads are encouraged to register early and as a foursome. Because this tournament is subsidized by the Alumni Association, entries are limited to Alumni Association members and undergraduates only. A copy of the entry form is included in this newsletter. Special thanks to Mike Mathy ('80), once again, for his tournament planning efforts.

Chapter Part y Room Undergoes Transformation As reported in the October newsletter, the Pi Kap Building Corporation has identified and prioritized several enhancements to the Chapter House, including a much needed upgrade to the existing wifi internet system and repurposing the party room. The wifi upgrade was completed over the Winter Break, and the focus has now turned to the party room. The party room, which was formerly known on campus as “Club D”, was officially decommissioned during the Fall Semester of 2012. As part of the ongoing probationary period with the University and the International Fraternity, the Chapter is dry (no alcohol). To provide a

fun gathering place for the Undergrads, as well as a safe and clean place to host social vents, the Building Corporation decided to revamp the party room. The project began with the party room being professionally cleaned and repairing the heating and ventilation systems. Next, the party room walls were completely repainted and lighting has been improved. Two ping pong tables were installed and now being put to use. Additionally, six new sofas were delivered last week and a big-screen TV has been mounted to the wall. Cable was connected in time for the Super Bowl on February 3rd.

Gamma Xi Endowment Surpasses $52K!

Rush Referral

Did you know that the Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation has established a restricted endowment fund for Gamma Xi? Currently (as of December 31, 2011), the Foundation manages $1,477,528 restricted to specific Pike chapters. Gamma Xi currently maintains the largest endowment fund with over $52,536. The endowments fund academic and leadership scholarships granted annually to chapters and students for attendance at educational programs under the PIKE University umbrella (e.g., The Academy, Chapter Executives Conference, Leadership Summits and International Convention). Once a specific chapter endowment fund reaches a $10,000 threshold for one fiscal year, the Foundation annually awards 3%-5% of the corpus amount. As the balance grows, so does the size of the grant (e.g., $10,000 at 5% = $500 or $25,000 at 3% = $1,250). The endowments are funded by gifts received to benefit respective chapters specifically through the undergraduate giving society (φφka Club) or any gift received designated by the donor to his respective chapter. You too can support the Gamma Xi endowment fund by making a restricted gift today! Contact the Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation to donate or inquire about giving to this important program:
