‘In season and out of season’ The 1st Partners in the Gospel Conference Wednesday 5 March 2008, Deeside Christian Fellowship Church

Calling all preachers! Are you longing for soul–stirring teaching geared specifically to preachers? Are you feeling the need to sharpen your own pulpit skills, but don’t want to read just another preaching book? Are you seeking the encouragement of fellow preachers who share the sacred task of delivering God’s Word to God’s people every week?

If you are, then we’re sure you will be blessed by ‘Partners in the Gospel’, a new conference for North East Scotland, designed to encourage and enthuse preachers from all backgrounds and denominations in handling God’s Word with accuracy, relevance and passion. The conference aims to mould and deepen convictions about the centrality of biblical preaching, and to promote faithful, authoritative preaching in Scotland.

We are delighted that Liam Goligher will be our keynote speaker. For this first year our conference will take the theme ‘in season and out of season’ – a reminder of Paul’s challenge to Timothy to preach the truth when people want it and when they don’t. In addition to Liam’s preacher-specific messages, we will hear a presentation by the church historian Ian Shaw on the vital lessons to be learned from the preaching ministry of John Bunyan. We also believe that biblical preaching has a crucial role in pastoral work, so we want to encourage one another in this vital aspect of our ministries. We have set aside time to look at pastoral situations that we all face with a Panel made up of the speakers and conference organizers in a session that will also provide a forum for open discussion together. Add to that the opportunity to meet fellow preachers from a wide variety of backgrounds over lunch, and browse through an extensive bookstall designed for preachers, and we believe there will be much in this special day to re-invigorate our preaching and warm our souls.

An evening with Liam Golligher Just as we can benefit enormously from the time together during the day at Deeside, so our fellowships can be helped by the evening programme at Gilcomston South Church. We’d like to extend an open invitation to as many in your fellowship as possible to join us for the final part of the Conference, when we can spend an evening together with the Lord, listening to his word and praising his name as we pray and sing. Liam will be opening the scriptures with us, and we will exalt God with a blend of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs. This evening gathering will allow God’s word to speak across our traditional differences and enable us to respond to scripture together, as well as providing us with a great opportunity to deepen that fellowship in the gospel which we have come to enjoy in a range of settings in the North East of Scotland. Please invite others to join us as we listen to the Lord and respond to his glorious and lifeencompassing gospel.
