Ancient Path Communities Newsletter October 2015
PREPARING FOR THE JOURNEY! What's been happening since we returned from Africa? There is so much to tell! Fred finished his ministry at the Log Church with a wonderful celebration on September 13th. Since then, we have sought to breathe, rest and start preparing for the next adventure as we prepare for ministry in Malawi. Here are a few of the things we have been up to:
A Beautiful Goodbye! On September 13th, Cindy and I culminated 13+ years of ministry at The Log Church (Crosslake Evangelical Free Church). It was a joyful and tearful day! I had the opportunity to share a final sermon, but the true joy was in worshipping with our many friends and family who gathered together on this day. Our Elders (and Church) prayed blessing over us and commissioned our family for our calling to Malawi. We had the opportunity to greet people after the service and share many special, personal moments and many hugs! We were so blessed by a wonderful reception and so many kind words as people reflected on our common ministry together. We were so moved and overwhelmed by it all. The Church family also gave us a love offering -- so generous! We were humbled and overwhelmed by the love of our church family and the faithfulness of God in providing so beautifully for us.

Testimony: Pastor Sugar This past August, while in Lilongwe, Malawi, Ancient Path had the opportunity to record a beautiful choir from Sinjenko (a small village outside of Lilongwe). The recording took place at an ideal church sanctuary with great acoustics in Lilongwe. The choir was absolutely remarkable and we are all excited to see the final product which AP is working on through Ken and Patt Wadenpful's amazing guidance. During the recording session, I had a great chance to chat with the pastor of this church whose last name is "Sugar". I shared a bit of our vision for Kingdom living and cultivating communities who are living out the love of Christ day by day, not just preaching about it. We talked at length about discipleship, the needs of his community and the desire to help people walk in hope, freedom and grace. It was so clear this pastor hungered for a Christianity that is real, authentic and deep. I could sense in this man's heart a desire for more than conventional church. These are just the sort of God encounters that we believe the Lord is leading us to Malawi to walk into. We are praying that He will lead us to the "men and women of peace," those with receptive and humble hearts who have courage to become change agents for the Kingdom. Pray for Pastor Sugar that he will see and pursue the Father's heart for his congregation and his community.
What's New With Emily... Emily has a new job! She is now working at Stone House Coffee in Nisswa. Right now she is working in the bakery making the world's most incredible scones! She is taking a full load at CLC (Central Lakes Community College) as a High School senior. Pray for much grace, strength and wisdom for Emily as she completes her education even as we prepare for our move to Africa. Also pray for wisdom for Cindy and me as we help Emily decide if it is best to stay in the USA and complete school while living with her Aunt Colleen and Uncle Rory in Austin, MN or come with us to Malawi and roll the dice with the wifi there.
What's New with Isaiah... Isaiah is attending Lake Region Christian School in Baxter, MN while we prepare for our move to Africa. He is playing for the JV soccer team, which he loves! School is going well for Isaiah. Both he and Emily are staying plugged in with the Log Church youth group, connecting with friends and growing in Christ. Please pray for wisdom as we seek to help Isaiah prepare emotionally, physically and spiritually for our move to Malawi.
What's Next? This month we travel to Cleveland (Ohio October 18-26) for a special Ancient Path celebration event. We will be meeting many of the AP Board members, sharing vision, building friendships and connecting around our common love for Christ and His heart for Africa! Please pray for safe travels, great relationships and soul stirring vision as we share this exciting time with our new ministry team.
How is Support Raising Going? We are so excited to see God's hand moving as He brings such wonderful and generous hearts to partner with us for ministry in Malawi! We have received many generous one time gifts. Those gifts will be so incredibly helpful in enabling us to continue support raising until we are ready to leave for Malawi. Once we are in Malawi, they will help us buy furniture, purchase a car, set up our office, obtain WIFI and take care of many other one time expenses that come with a move to another culture. More than 24 people/families have given one time gifts to our ministry! We are so grateful for your encouragement and prayers! We have also received many commitments to give regularly to our ministry needs either monthly or quarterly. So far, through these commitments, we have received just over 60% of our monthly support needed to sustain our life and ministry in Malawi. This is just huge! We are trusting God for 100% of our monthly needs! When that prayer is answered, we will move to Malawi and begin our ministry there. Please join with us in praying for the full amount of our needed support and stand with us by faith! If you have not yet partnered with us, pray and ask God what He wants you to do, then by faith do what He tells you. Our Father God will be so faithful to provide for you abundantly!
