Sunday, March 11th vs. Prince George Cougars FOLLOW THE LEADER: Entering today’s contest versus Prince George, Royals’ forward Tyler Soy will break the franchise record for most career WHL games played with 321. The previous mark was held by alumnus Ryan Gagnon, who totaled 320 contests in his five seasons (2012-17) with Victoria. Earlier this season, Soy set new franchise marks for points (324), goals (151) and assists (173). BC DIVISION WRAP-UP: Today’s game versus the Cougars marks the club’s final regular season contest against the BC Division. This season, the Royals have compiled a mark of 21-10-1-1 against divisional opponents. Matthew Phillips leads all Victoria skaters with 55 points (19g-36a) in 33 games versus BC Division clubs. The Royals hold a 136-88-5-7 mark against divisional clubs since the team relocated to Vancouver Island. THE WINNING WAY: Victoria goaltender Griffen Outhouse registered his 34th win of the year last Friday against the Cougars. The product of Likely, BC now sits one appearance away from setting the new franchise record for most wins in a single season at 35, which he set himself in the 2016-17 campaign. Outhouse’s 34 victories this season are tied for the second most among all WHL goalies. MR. CLUTCH: Royals’ forward Tanner Kaspick scored his ninth game winning goal of the season and his fourth overtime winner on Friday night versus the Cougars. The St. Louis Blues’ signed prospect leads all WHL players with four extra-time goals. Since being acquired by Victoria at the WHL Trade Deadline Day, Kaspick has registered 13 goals in 22 games, which surpasses the 12 times he scored for the Brandon Wheat Kings in his opening 35 contests this season. MILESTONE CONTEST: Royals’ forward Lane Zablocki is set to take part in his 200th career WHL contest tonight. The Detroit Red Wings’ prospect has also spent time with the Regina Pats, Red Deer Rebels and Lethbridge Hurricanes. In 199 career WHL outings, Zablocki has registered 122 points (58g-64a) to go along with 286 penalty minutes. Zablocki was acquired from Lethbridge at the WHL Trade Deadline for a second and sixth round draft pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. RED HOT ROYALS: A pair of Victoria skaters extended their point streaks on Friday night against the Cougars. Captain Matthew Phillips has recorded nine points (1g-8a) in his previous five contests, while Tyler Soy has recorded four consecutive multi-point performances and has also totaled nine points (4g-5a) in those games. In 32 games since the holiday break, both Phillips and Soy lead the club in points with 54 (21g-33a) and 50 (23g-27a) respectively. ALUMNI REPORT: Alumni Brandon Magee and Jamie Crooks, who are currently playing for the University of Alberta Golden Bears, will compete for the 2018 U Sports University Cup in Fredericton, NB. The tournament will kick off March 15th with the finals occurring on March 18th. Magee, who played in 318 games between 2009-15 for the Royals and Chilliwack Bruins, tallied 264 points (113g-151a). In 293 contests with the Royals and Bruins, Crooks registered 197 points (111g-86a) over five seasons (2008-13).
