PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING We hope you have made your plans to attend the many upcoming events at Elmwood. Next Tuesday is our Breakfast & Books event from 8--9 AM, next Wednesday our 5th & 6th grade Bands will be performing for us all at 1:30 & 6:30 PM. Please don’t forget about our Winter Primary concert that will be on Dec. 22 at 1:30 & 6:30 PM to kick off our Winter Break. I hope you are enjoying the El Nino conditions affecting our weather. Please remember to assist your children with proper outerwear when coming to and from school; this will help everyone stay healthy at school as the weather fluctuates up and down. Morning Drop-Off Reminder As the weather gets colder, it is especially important to remember that Elmwood’s doors don’t open until 8:20 a.m. M, T, Th and F, and at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesdays. If students are arriving before those times, they will be put into the before-school care program at the cost of the parents, so that students are warm and supervised. Please help us to make sure students are not arriving earlier than the scheduled time!

WORDS OF WISDOM Happy Friday, Panthers and Parents! The theme for the month of December is “Friendships.” This week we focused on maintaining positive friendships at school. Friends are vital to school-age children's healthy development. Research has found that children who lack friends can suffer from emotional and mental difficulties later in life. Friendships provide children with more than just fun playmates. Friendships help children develop emotionally and morally. In interacting with friends, children learn many social skills, such as how to communicate, cooperate, and solve problems. Parents play a crucial role in their child's social development. A child is not born with social skills. He needs parents who take an active role in preparing him to interact successfully with his peers. The most important thing parents can do for their child is to develop a loving, accepting, and respectful relationship with him. This warm relationship sets the stage for all future relationships, including friendships. Have a wonderful weekend, and remember to come to school on Monday prepared to Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Ready for class! With something to think about, this is Ms. Martini. Make it a great weekend – or not. The choice is yours!
BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE READY
