OSU story lines 1. All about the offense If both offenses play an average game, Oregon will win by three-tenths of a point. That’s how evenly matched the Oregon (41.9 points per game) and Oklahoma State (41.6 per game) offenses have been this season, both ranking in the top 10 nationally in scoring. The Holiday Bowl is known for having high-scoring, closely contested games, and there’s no reason to expect this one to be any different. 2. Run, run and run some more The interesting quality about the two offenses is their reliance on the running game. Both teams have spread offenses, which typically are used to open up the passing attack, but the Ducks and Cowboys average more than 45 rushing attempts and 250 yards per game. 3. Time to be special Both head coaches commented Monday on the importance of special teams in bowl games, and that’s an area where Oklahoma State has been strong all year, especially in kick returns with Dez Bryant and Perrish Cox. “They have Dez Bryant in a position to handle the ball, and we don’t want him to handle the ball,” Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said. “If my punter punts the ball 35 yards out of bounds every time, I’ll be happy.”

Player to watch: OSU linebacker Orie Lemon Like the Cowboys, Oregon’s offense is based on establishing the run game, and the Ducks have two backs with varying styles. Jeremiah Johnson is smaller and quicker, while LeGarrette Blount, 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, is a big bruiser. OSU middle linebacker Orie Lemon will be at the heart of the Cowboys’ run defense, which will be asked to contain the pair of backs, who have each rushed for more than 900 yards this season.
