General Information Product Overview What does a Vibrating Length Sizer do?
Separates clean produce into a maximum of four length sizes. Long produce; carrots, parsnips, yams, etc.
What produce types can be sorted?
You can sort elongated potatoes, but this is only effective for removing smalls, not accurate sizing. When you want to size long produce by length, prior to packaging.
When should you use a Vibrating Length Sizer?
To pre-grade produce before an optical grading system. You may need a Lift Roller Sizer instead (or as well), depending on size and shape grading requirements. Can also be used for piece removal.

General Information (cont.) Product Overview Produce is fed onto a flat section at the infeed end of the machine (spreader tray). It then moves onto the sizer bed which is made up of corrugated channels. The bed vibrates to spread produce across its width. Produce moves into the corrugated channels and moves towards the outfeed. As produce moves forward, a series of adjustable openings allow short produce or pieces to fall through while longer produce bridges the opening and continues on.
How does a Vibrating Length Sizer work?
Produce can be separated into up to four sizes: three through the adjustable openings and the longest size exiting at the outfeed. Opening sizes can be easily changed using adjusters on each side of the machine. Two eccentric vibrating motors shake the sizer at an adjustable speed. Small vibrations are best so produce does not bounce. The bed is mounted on springs to isolate the vibrations.
What are the sizing capabilities?
The adjustable openings can be set anywhere between 10 - 150mm. Produce twice the size of the opening is likely to pass over it, while smaller produce is likely to fall through*. This means you can size out produce up to 300mm. Cross-conveyors beneath the sizing slots to carry away sized produce. If you also run round produce through your processing line, install a bypass conveyor to carry round produce past the Vibrating Length Sizer as needed.
What other equipment might be needed?
For accurate, diameter sizing as well, you can use a Lift Roller Sizer with the Vibrating Length Sizer. If both are used, all produce runs on the Lift Roller Sizer first, then the premium sizes from that would run on one or two Vibrating Length Sizers (one for each premium grade). Lift Roller Sizers have a much bigger capacity and are more expensive, so it is best to use just one, followed by as many Vibrating Length Sizers as you need.
* Produce with a diameter larger than 50mm may not fall through openings as described here, due to the balance point being different. Openings should be adjusted to suit.
