"A brilliant pale yellow colour with green glimmers. The very nice expressive nose has white flower scents. The attack is bold and generous. This wine, which is balanced on the palate, has good volume and quite exceptional long-lasting scents and tastes for this appellation."In 1825, Pierre Faiveley founded the firm that now bears the name Domaine Faiveley. At that time, the firm was classic negociant, buying and selling wine. But from generation to generation, with a firm commitment to the quality of Burgundy’s patrimony, the Faiveley family has purchased vineyard and is today among the largest owners of classified vineyards in the Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beaune and Cotes Chalonnaise. All together the firm owns some 120 hectare of vineyards among which 10 hectares are grands crus and 25, premiers crus. The objective of the family today, led by Erwan Faiveley, is to increase the firm’s holdings of great vineyards so that there can be complete control from vine to bottle across the entire range of wines. Along with this focus, Erwan Faiveley and General Manager Bernard Hervet have renovated the cellars which now boast state of the art barrel presses, custom designed wooden vats and among the finest, air cured oak casks available in the world. Unlike many wine growers, Domaine Faiveley has united the management of its vineyards and its cellar under the direction of one technical director, Jerome Flous. The result is seamless integration of vineyard and cellar practices with great results in the quality of the wines. Today, the wines of Domaine Faiveley are widely recognized for being among the finest produced in Burgundy and Domaine Faiveley among the finest wine producers in the world. 2009 Vintage Notes from Burghound: "I met on this visit with Erwan Faiveley's second in command Bernard Hervet as Faiveley is completing an MBA in New York. He described 2009 as a vintage that is "ripe and warm but without any heaviness. I could smell mocha in the fruit and this only happens in vintages where the seeds attain a high level of ripeness. We began picking the reds on the 7th of September and brought in impeccably clean fruit and quite a bit of it as yields were generous but it's important to note that they were not ridiculous. The amount of destemming varied considerably, indeed between 0% and 100%. We did a classic vinification of about three weeks and the colors came quickly. We used a bit less new wood and what we did use was with a very light toast. As to the wines, I would compare the 2009 vintage with 1959 or 1964, which is to say other very ripe vintages with large yields. In 2009, the classification hierarchy is well and truly in evidence as each level is clearly better than its precedent. There also isn't much difference in quality between the two Côtes, which is something that you can't always say. I have noticed though that 2009 really shines between Corton and Nuits St. Georges as the wines are finer than they typically are. Overall, the most important aspect of the vintage though is that it produced balanced wines and thus they are going to age much better than people presently give them credit for.""

The term 304 for our un-oaked Chardonnay comes from the steel industry's designation for the food-grade stainless steel that is produced with the highest possible nickel and chromium content. Our Chardonnay 304 is fermented, then aged in these high-grade stainless steel tanks, and has no wood aging. It's given extended yeast-lees contact through a pump-over system that enhances the flavor, broadens the texture, and increases the stability of the wine.

The exceptional growing season of 2012 was marked by a relatively long, cool summer. Grapes hung on the vine happily until harvest and the resulting vintage has brought us a Merlot wine full of bigger structure, deeper color and more complex aromatics. The first impression: a sensory overload of ripe fruits and savory garden herbs that overwhelms the nose. Summer plums and sweet cherries create a full entry and even bigger mouthfeel than lingers and languishes with the toasty vanilla from the American oak barrels. Remaining silky and smooth in texture, the wine finishes with sturdy tannins that wrap up this gift from 2012 perfectly.

With a dark garnet-red color, the wine shows distinctive, fine aromas of small fruits, raspberry preserves, roses and violets, with an herbal note. In the mouth, the wine has full, lively tart fruit flavors, elegant tannins and a lingering aftertaste, with traces of prunes and toasty oak. “Nino Negri has confirmed itself a star of first magnitude.”– Gambero Rosso Established in 1897, Nino Negri is the premier estate producing wine in the Valtellina DOCG in Italy’s Lombardy region. The success of Nino Negri and the greater Valtellina region is due largely to the efforts of winemaker Casimiro Maule who has worked at the estate since 1971, his entire professional life. In 2007, Casimiro was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Gambero Rosso, the authority in Italian wine. The Valtellina region, located at the base of the pre-Alps on Italy’s border with Switzerland, is an extremely challenging terroir. A narrow, 25 mile-long amphitheater of terraced vineyards that line the north bank of the Adda river, forming a deep gorge amid mountainous terrain. This is Italy’s largest terraced area of viticulture: an impressive 1,500 miles of dry walls that support the terraces are distributed over the 25-mile strip. Working this land is a monumental, back breaking toil. Steep, nearly vertical vineyards from 2,400 to 3,000 feet elevation rule out the use of any mechanical equipment. All work, from removing soil to harvesting grapes is done by hand. The star and primary varietal here is Chiavennasca, the local name for Nebbiolo. The variety has been cultivated here for over 1,000 years and it is said that it was brought from here to neighboring Piedmont in the 14th Century. All Valtellina DOCG wines must contain at least 90% Chiavennasca. Nino Negri controls 184 Ha (450 acres) of the finest Chiavennasca vineyards in the Valtellina Superiore DOCG subzones of Sassella, Grumello, Inferno and Valgella. The estate owns an exceptional 34 Ha (85 acres) and has long-term contracts (50-60 yrs) from 220 growers covering an additional 150 Ha (370 acres). Eleven of the 34 Ha owned (27 acres) comprise the Fracia vineyard, an exclusive cru planted since 1995 to special clonal selections and vinestocks that are cultivated horizontally from west to east, an innovated planting scheme for this region. The winery is located in the city of Chiuro in the 15th Century Quadrio Castle. The “castle” sits above an array of underground cellars which house thousands of barrels. The wines are aged here in medium-sized oak, almost exclusively French. All Nino Negri wines age for at least two years before they are released to ensure optimum maturity at time of bottling. The estate specialty is Sfursat ("strained" or "forced"); a wine made from grapes harvested by trained pickers and dried for 100 days in the cool, dry, alpine air. This winemaking style combines the opulence of Amarone with the elegant complexity of Barolo.
