Project: Double Diamond Band Materials
FOR ONE PILLOWCASE • 9—9×21" pieces assorted prints (fat eighths) (pillowcase band) • 1⁄4 yard accent print or solid (pillowcase band) • 7⁄ 8 yard main print (pillowcase body) Finished pillowcase: 30×20" (fits a standard-size bed pillow) Finished block: 5" square Yardages and cutting instructions are based on 42" of usable fabric width. Measurements include 1 ⁄4" seam allowances for piecing and 1 ⁄ 2" seam allowances for pillowcase construction. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.
Cut Fabrics
From each of assorted print Nos. 1–7, cut: • 16—2 1⁄ 8" squares From each of assorted print Nos. 8 and 9, cut: • 8—2 1⁄ 8" squares From accent print or solid, cut: • 1—51⁄ 2×40 1⁄ 2" strip From main print, cut: • 1—25 3⁄4×41" rectangle
Assemble Blocks
1. Mark a diagonal line on wrong
side of eight squares each of assorted print Nos. 1–4, No. 6, and No. 7; mark a diagonal line on wrong side of each assorted print No. 5 square. 2. Layer a marked print No. 1
square atop an unmarked print No. 2 square. Sew together with two seams, stitching 1 ⁄4" on each side of marked line (Diagram 1). Cut pair apart on marked line to make two triangle units. Press

open each triangle unit, pressing seam open to make two trianglesquares. Each triangle-square should be 1 3⁄4" square including seam allowances. 3. Repeat Step 2 according to the
Piecing Chart, above, to make 128 triangle-squares total. 4. Referring to Block Assembly
Diagram, lay out 16 trianglesquares in four rows. Sew together the triangle-squares in each row to make a block. Press seams open. The block should be 51 ⁄ 2" square including seam allowances. Repeat to make eight blocks total.
Assemble Band
1. Referring to Band Assembly
a 401 ⁄ 2×51 ⁄ 2" pieced strip. Press seams open. 2. Join pieced strip and accent
print or solid 51 ⁄ 2×401 ⁄ 2" strip (Band Assembly Diagram). 3. Join short ends of Step 2 unit to
make a loop. Press seam open. Fold loop in half with wrong side inside; press to make pillowcase band.
Assemble Pillowcase 1. Fold body print 25 3⁄4×41"
rectangle in half to form a 25 3⁄4×201 ⁄ 2" rectangle. Using a 1 ⁄ 2" seam allowance, sew together long edges and one set of short edges to make the pillowcase body. Turn right side out and press flat.

Project: Double Diamond Band 2. Matching raw edges and seams,
slide pillowcase band over pillowcase body with pieced side of band facing pillowcase body (Diagram 2); pin. Using a 1 ⁄4" seam allowance, sew together through all layers. 3. Press pillowcase band
open, pressing seam toward pillowcase body. Topstitch 1 ⁄ 8" from band edge to secure seam allowance and complete pillowcase (Diagram 3).
