Plainfield Junior Basketball League Sign-ups Going on Now! The Plainfield Junior Basketball League is now registering students who are either residents of the Town of Plainfield, a part of the Plainfield public school system, or attend St. Susanna School. League play is anticipated to begin November 7th and ends in March before Spring Break. Unless registrations dictate otherwise, the program will be co-ed for grade levels 1st through 6th. For those in grades 7 & 8 and 9-12,

girls will play against girls and boys against boys. Running a longer season will also allow make-up games to be scheduled over a longer period of time. “We had a lot of winter closures year before last,” Chafin said. “We ended up having to suspend some of our open gym time to get the make-up games in. This should help if we end up having another bad winter.”

the non-resident category will begin August 21st. End registration date for everyone is October 25th. Evaluations are October 29th and the coaches informational meeting is November 2nd. The antic-

Registration for those in

ipated start date is Nov. 7th. Teams are divided into five age groups: 1st & 2nd grade; 3rd & 4th grade; 5th & 6th grade; 7th & 8th grade; and 9th through 12th grades. Additional questions can be answered by calling 317-8397665 or by emailing [email protected]

PJBL season is from November until March (ending before Spring Break). Also, grade levels from first through sixth grade will feature co-ed play, unless registration dictates otherwise.

Resident/Member Mondays Continue Through July 31st! Resident/Member Mondays is the newest amenity at Splash Island. We have already offered this night swim for the month of June and it’s already been a hit. This Monday night swim will continue every Monday night through July 31st (weather dependent). For this exclusive group, the same full experience of Splash Island’s Caribbean vacation close to home is available on Monday nights from 7p.m. to 10p.m. It offers the perfect time for those who live in Plainfield or have a membership to enjoy the features of the aquatic center with their families in a more relaxed swimming environment.

And with daylight savings time and the extended daylight of the summer solstice, it’s hardly nighttime at all! Join us in July for those relaxed floats around our 900 ft. leisure river, short lines for the three waterslides, and much more before this exclusive event is gone! *Membership ID and proof of residency will be required for admission.

Shorter wait times, a more relaxed swimming environment, and a chance to cool off after a hot day await you at Resident/Member Mondays at Splash Island if you are a resident of the Town or a member of the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation & Aquatic Center.

Pickleball Continues to Grow in Popularity for the Town The pickleball courts at Swinford Park were added last fall and have recently been resurfaced. They are seeing a lot of usage from the community. For those unfamiliar with the game, pickleball is a racquet sport, that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. We are excited for our patrons to continue to get outside and enjoy the great game of pickleball. Its popularity continues to grow within our community. Oftentimes throughout the week, people have been gathering for some fun in the sun playing pickleball in the mornings. Longtime Town Council member Bill Kirchoff has become an avid player, and regularly mentions his love for the game as well as the new courts within the Town of Plainfield during Town Council meetings. Feel free to head down to Swinford Park, join in on the action, and see what all the hype is about surrounding the game! Open Play

Franklin Park Update Phase 1 of remodeling for Franklin Park is nearing completion. A new surrounding fence has already been added to the park. Further installations will include new playground equipment, park benches, and safety surface beginning in early July. Once this is completed, the removal of antiquated equipment will commence. Finally, an asphalt path will be constructed around the equipment, making it accessible to all who wish to participate in the fun. Details will be announced at a later date regarding Phase 2 of the Franklin Park project. Shelter rentals are available in Franklin Park starting July 1st. These had previously been blocked out due to construction. Rentals are available all day, or time blocks of 10a-2p/4p-8p. The shelter can accommodate up to 75 people. Reservations can be completed at the front desk of the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center.

Splash Island Hours Change After August 1st We’ve had a great June at Splash Island, and we’re planning to have a great start to our July! When the Plainfield School System goes back to school on Tuesday, August 1st , Splash Island’s hours will no longer be daily. From August 1st until Labor Day, September 4th, hours for the outdoor water park will be as follows: Saturdays:

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sundays:

12 noon to 6 p.m.

Endless Summer Nights:

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Monday, September 4th (Labor Day), the Splash Island Family Waterpark will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. That’s the last regularly scheduled time for human swimming, but see page 1 about the Puppy Pool Party September 9th & 10th. With so little time left to enjoy the summer pool schedule before school starts again, plan on coming early and often!

The fun doesn’t have to stop when school is back in session! Endless Summer Nights are a great way to spend some family time at Splash Island on Wednesday nights throughout August.
