14th September 2016 IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDING NOTICE FOR THE PARENTS OF PUPILS IN YEARS 5 AND 6. As children move into the later stages of primary school, many families start to think about allowing their children to travel to and from school alone. I am therefore writing to clarify the school’s policy on this: Start of the Day: It is for parents to decide whether they wish their child to make their own way to school in the morning. Parents know their children best and will make a judgement based on the journey involved and the maturity of the child. We ask that if you have given permission for your child to travel to school alone, you must inform us so that we can make a note of this and be extra vigilant that your child has arrived safely. End of the Day: Children leaving alone: The school’s policy is that pupils will not be allowed to leave the premises without a known adult (16+). Should you wish your child to go home on their own, we must have written parental permission for this. Please note that the school can only be responsible for pupils whilst they are on the site. Once they leave the school grounds, children become the responsibility of the parent. Children being collected: Children will only be allowed to leave the premises with a known adult (16+). These adults must be included on your child’s Welfare form and must be able to give the correct password if asked. Should someone not listed on this form come to collect your child, or if they cannot provide the password when asked, the school office will contact you to seek your permission for them to take your child. Until this is received, your child will remain with school staff. Could you please complete the slip on the back of this letter and return it to your child’s class teacher by Monday, 19th September, to confirm the arrangements for your child.
