PVMS PTO Meeting April 3, 2013 Attendance: Ray Bernier, Danette Dykema, Sarah Minei, Penny Patch-Bartnicki, Heather Quint, Tracey Turner, & Melissa Lennon 1) Review March Minutes i) Minutes will be available for review online later this week. 2) Treasurer’s Report i) Ending Balance: $3,067.80 ii) March transactions (1) Received $958.20 for Box Tops (2) Paid $150 for magnets (3) Paid $50 for Rock Hounds (4) Paid $235 for Project O at Science Night (5) Deposit $967 from Spirit Wear iii) Upcoming expenses (1) Bills for Spirit Wear ($117 + $801) (2) Receipts from Science Night 3) Principal’s Report i) Black Dragons Karate School – Dan Jenkins (1) Anti-bullying Assembly tentatively set for April 22nd (a) PreK-2 from 2-2:30 p.m. (b) Gr. 3-5 from 1-1:45 p.m. (2) Offered a free Kick Fit Boot Camp (a) Perhaps schedule for May 31st as Family Fun Night; Mr. Bernier will arrange it (3) Suggested a Kick-a-thon as a fundraiser with karate (a) Other schools have earned $7,500 doing it. (b) Perhaps the school would host the event ii) Upcoming Events (1) 4/4/2013 – Public Hearing regarding Capital Projects (2) 4/15/2013 – Vacation Week (3) 4/22/2013 – Anti-Bullying Assembly (4) 4/26/2013 – PTO Family Fun Night (Moon Bounce) (5) 6/21/2013 – Last Day of School 4) Old Business a) PVMS PTO’s Non-Profit Status (501c3) i) Danette continues to work with the paperwork. b) April Fun Night (Moon Bounce) – Friday, April 26th from 6:30-8 p.m. i) Will set up the spin art machine and offer the opportunity to spin cards ii) The fifth grade might sell concessions that night to help raise funds for their graduation celebration c) Supplies for Teachers (Spring for Supplies) – Sarah i) Teacher wish lists are going home steadily. d) BOGO Book Fair – May 6-10th in the Science Room
i) Tuesday, May 7th will be available for parents to shop from 3-6 p.m. (1) OK Kids director will need to be notified in the event parents want to go to the book fair after picking up their child (2) Parents may need to wait until dismissal is complete before going to the book fair for security reasons ii) Will need volunteers during the day iii) Will need volunteers to help set-up the book fair on Friday, May 3rd; help is needed emptying the room iv) An e-mail needs to be sent to the science teacher so that she is aware her room will be used e) Field Day at Strawberry Park – Tuesday, June 4th with a rain date of Tuesday, June 11th i) Deposit of $1 per student is expected (1) Those students who do not attend field day will stay at the school (2) A form will need to be sent home to find out which students will be attending ii) Pool usage (1) Teachers are concerned about using the pool (2) Many schools bring one life guard; PVMS would consider having two for the L shaped pool (3) The L shaped pool goes from 3’ to 9’ in depth. (4) Flotation devices are not allowed (5) Danette contacted teachers from two schools who have been to the campground and use the pool (a) Those schools have parents sign a waiver to allow their child to swim; Danette will try to get a copy of the waiver they use (b) Those schools have the students wear their bathing suit all day and do not change (6) Danette will speak with the faculty at their upcoming staff meeting next week to share information about the field day before eliminating the pool as an option (7) Danette has connections for possibly available and interested lifeguards iii) Lunch plans (1) Students may either bring a lunch or buy a bagged lunch from the cafeteria (2) Danette will contact the cafeteria to make arrangements for lunch that day and find out the menu available (3) PTO will provide popsicles (a) Danette will find out whether popsicles can be purchased at wholesale through the cafeteria. Can also ask Ledyard Center School how they purchase popsicles. iv) Draft Rotation Schedule of Activities in process v) Will need Frisbees ordered for the Spin Art machine and tattoos will be needed f) Appreciation Days i) Administrative Assistants – April 24th (1) The administrative assistants will be given an Alex and Ani bracelet/charm ii) Bus Drivers – May

(1) Paper busses will be sent around to each classroom for children to sign; each child will sign their own bus route (2) The bus drivers will be taken out to breakfast at Park’s Place after their morning run (3) Penny will call Pat at the bus garage to coordinate a date (not the week of the book fair) (4) Penny will call Park’s Place to let them know the date and price range per person (about $7) so that a menu can be made iii) Staff Appreciation – June 7th (1) Potluck luncheon: salad, sandwiches, and dessert g) PTO Year End Awards i) Trophies for Star Student Awards that teachers select must be ordered (1) The list of names need to be ready in May ii) Box Tops trophies for the top three students in the school will need to be purchased 5) New Business i) CL&P – Offering a free electricity assembly (1) Danette will pass the information on to Mr. Bernier 6) Next Meeting: Wednesday, May 1st
