Biblical counseling is a process of intense discipleship aimed at changing people’s hearts through the truth and power of God’s Word and the ministry of His Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit of God Takes The Holy Word of God & Makes Me Like The Holy Son Of God
EPISTEMOLOGY (source of truth and its determinative factors) ANTHROPOLOGY (what we think about man being created by God and its purpose) SOTERIOLOGY (how man is re-created by God, its purpose, its impact) All three of these Doctrines are foundational to how we should think about counseling

Teaching to Observe
Technically and Theologically Teaching To Observe Implies
“Discerning thinking and behavior that God wants to change; using God’s Word to change thinking and behavior; for the benefit of the individual and the glory of God”
The Churches Discipleship/Counseling Model Is More Comprehensive Than Any Other Model

Maturity Measure of Fullness of Christ
EQUIPPING Eph 4:12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
The Churches Discipleship/Counseling Model Is More Comprehensive Than Any Other Model The basis out of which counseling flows –is the ministry of the Word to the church. . . counseling is a part of, (not all of) that ministry. How the church “teaches her people to observe” can be done in all kinds of ways. (Evangelism, Christian life, Theology, Worship, specialized classes etc.)
The point is that it is God’s truth being communicated accurately for the purpose of shaping the will and changing the life. It is bringing redeemed people into conformity to the teaching of God. Theology proper and then theology practical. (Inflow/outflow)
Counseling (ministering the Word) is coming alongside someone
with a problem and using God’s Word (the tool of rescue, help, comfort, encouragement, rebuke and instruction) to minister, sanctifying truth to that individual for the purpose of biblical change It is done out of concern for the individual and the glory of God Ministering the Word Focused discipleship
Biblically confronting Lovingly coming along side to help
Specialized discipline Helping another believer bring his life in line with Scripture to the Glory of God
Fulfilling the privilege and responsibility of mutual sanctification One Anothering each other toward Christ-likeness Restoring a believer to usefulness - Galatians 6:1 Turning the sinner from the error of his way - James 5:19, 20 Personally helping a fellow believer identify sinful patterns of thought and/or behavior and help them put off unbiblical conduct and put on godliness Eph 4:22
