You will have 4 days to visit chapter houses. Each day you will rank all the houses you visited based on your conversations and experiences. Each day the chapters will select the women they would like to see the following day. Throughout the week your choices will narrow down until you make your final selection on Preference Evening. If you and a sorority both select each other on preference evening, then you will receive an invitation to join that sorority on Bid Day.

Recruitment Etiquette ● No texting ○

Feel free to bring a bag to carry water and such, but limit your phone activity to breaks between parties

● Be nice and respectful ○

Recruitment is full of long days. Even if you’re tired, be nice to the active members. Keep in mind that they’re tired too.

● Keep an open mind ○

You may not connect to a chapter on the 1st day and then love them on Preference Evening. A lot can change in a week.

● Go to all your parties ○

Skipping parties without an excused absence is considered not playing by the rules and reduces your chances of being matched with a sorority on bid day.

Recruitment Tips ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Be Yourself Trust The System Use Your Pi Rho Chi Stay Rested Keep an Open Mind Prep for Long Days Keep Perspective Focus on Conversations

Common Misconceptions “My sister was a Beta Beta so I have to be in Beta Beta.” Don’t feel pressured or motivated by what members of your family have done. Find the chapter where you feel most comfortable. Keep in mind that the same organization may be very different at different schools.

“I wasn’t invited back to my number one chapter. I don’t think I want to do Recruitment anymore.” If you’re released from one of your preferred chapters, don’t despair. Focus on the chapters that have given you invitations. They clearly see something in you that they really like, and your opinion on chapters may change after the longer conversations later in the week.

FAQs What is a legacy? A woman who has a sister, mother, aunt or grandmother who is an initiated member of a sorority is considered a legacy to that particular chapter. Being a legacy does not guarantee you a bid to that chapter.

What are letters of recommendation? If you have a family member or friend who is an initiated member of a sorority they can write you letter of recommendation for you. These should be sent directly to that chapter.

FAQs Continued… Do I move into the sorority house? Davis sorority houses are relatively small. Typically you would only move into the sorority house if you have a leadership position that is a “live-in position.”

How much does a sorority cost? Sorority dues can range from $350-$650 per quarter. Exact numbers per sorority will be discussed on House Tours Day.

FAQs Continued… What is the time commitment for being in a sorority? If you join a sorority you will be expected to attended one weekly chapter meeting and one quarterly philanthropy event. You can be excused from mandatory events if you have work or school. Many sorority members balance a ton extracurriculars (jobs, internships, leadership positions, sports teams, other clubs) with sorority life. The more time and energy you put into your sorority the more you will get out of it.

Greek Life at UC Davis UC Davis has over 70 Greek organizations Other types of sororities at Davis: ● Cultural ● Professional ● Community service *Non-Panhellenic Recruitment is informal and varies by organization.
