Tuesday, November 14th vs. Red Deer Rebels HOME COOKIN’: The Royals have enjoyed success at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre so far this season. Through 10 games played on home ice, Victoria has posted an 8-1-1-0 record, which places them in a tie for the second-most home wins. The Royals also rank third in the WHL in home winning percentage (0.850). Victoria has also tallied 48 goals at home, which is the second-highest in the league. RECORD SEEKING SOY: Victoria veteran Tyler Soy (123g-136a) is five points away from tying the franchise record for most career points. The record is currently held by former Royal and Chilliwack Bruin Brandon Magee who recorded 264 points (103g-151a) in 318 WHL contests. On October 21st versus the Brandon Wheat Kings, Soy passed Victoria alumnus Jack Walker (248) to become the Royals’ career points leader. POWERFUL PLUS/MINUS: Entering tonight’s contest, the Royals are the only team in the WHL to have every player at an even or better +/- rating. Matthew Phillips leads the team at +13, while Mitchell Prowse and Scott Walford sit tied for second at +11. The Portland Winterhawks are second in the league for fewest players with a minus rating at four. YOUNG GUNS: Victoria’s Igor Martynov and Red Deer’s Kristian Reichel are two of the WHL’s top scoring rookies. In 21 games this season, Martynov has tallied 13 points (6g-7a) and is tied for third in rookie scoring. Reichel, who sits in second place among all rookies, has registered 17 points (7g-10a) in 20 contests with the Rebels. FORMER CLUBS: Royals’ defenceman Jared Freadrich and Rebels’ forward Jared Dmytriw will be squaring off against their former clubs tonight. The two players were traded for each other prior to the start of the 201718 regular season. Freadrich spent one season for the Rebels where he recorded 30 points (6g-24a) in 64 games. Dmytriw, who was a draft selection of the Royals in 2013, skated in 179 contests with Victoria over three seasons where he registered 50 points (29g-21a). DO I KNOW YOU: During the 2014-15 season, Victoria’s Scott Walford and Mitchell Prowse were teammates with Red Deer’s Akash Bains with the Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) White Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). Walford and Bains each played in 28 games and amassed 21 (6g15a) and 20 points (6g-14a) respectively. Prowse played in 23 games split between the OHA White Prep team and the OHA Bantam Prep club, that included five games with the OHA White Prep club, and recorded nine assists in 23 games. LONE GOAL: The Royals’ lone marker on Saturday versus the Vancouver Giants marked the first time in 36 regular season games that Victoria was held to one goal or less. The last time the Royals tallied one marker or less in a contest was back on February 15, 2017 versus the Medicine Hat Tigers. The previous time Victoria was held to one goal or less by the Giants last occurred on December 15, 2015, which is a 23-game span.
