REMINGTON TOWN SQUARE
The emphasis of this project is based on the need to create more centers for gathering. The challenge was to solve specific problems related to site, program, and urban space. This project involved in-depth analysis of the site and program to generate a design for a multi-level public facility on an actual site with indoor and outdoor program. Overall focus was to gain deeper understanding for the capacity of architecture to be socially impactful, productive, and transformative to cities and neighborhoods.
REMINGTON TOWN SQUARE Location: Baltimore, Maryland USA Undergraduate Studio Project
The assignment was to create a town square for Remington neighborhood. We were asked to include outdoor programs; plaza (paved) area with a pop-up café, rain garden, built in seating, outdoor dining area,lawn, and plantings and trees. The indoor programs included restaurant at first floor and event space/ yoga studio at second floor with assembly hall, catering kitchen, and second floor balcony/rooftop deck.
REMINGTON TOWNSQUARE While the Remington neighborhood is becoming more gentrified communit, engagement is weak ened. The project attempt to create a fixture for the community by giving a variety of spaces to gather people from all three sides of the site addressing residential and commercial areas.
Remington Town square provide new experiencecurrently unavailable in the neighborhood, and create a relaxed meeting place for the neighbors without overwhelming them. The highlight of the are the square are the rooftop bar and the pop-up cafe with glass walls. The cafe becomes a light installation and a statement that brings excitement and character. Lighting adds safety as well as sets the mood and the overall feel of the property at night.

The triangular site is located at the intersection on Remington Avenue and W 28th Street. East side is facing the STRUCTURE/FORM/ORDER MASSING residential areas while West side is facing the new investment building, and the North side is right next to the fast traffic lanes, W 28th Street. With considerations of the site analysis, each side of my Remington Town Square is purposely programmed with the best accessibility.
Response to the row houses
The building design is composing of one triangular massresponding to the triangular site and other rectangular mass responding to the row houses. The closed rectangular space for privacy and open triangular space for public.
