Renewable Fuel Standards Information Since September 16th, 2013, refiners and pipelines throughout the country have been transitioning to a Sub-Octane gasoline (typically 84 octane). As a result, all sub-octane gasoline will require premium or ethanol to be added in order to meet state octane minimums. The driving factor behind this transition is the Renewable Fuels Standard that was passed by Congress in 2005. This standard requires a refiner to off-set fossil fuel production with a renewable fuel such as ethanol. Due to the limited tank space at terminals throughout the United States, pipelines are transitioning to sub-octane gasoline. Pipeline companies (such as NuStar and Magellan) may determine when to move to sub-octane unleaded gasoline only.
What does this mean for Rangeland Cooperatives, Inc. and its Customers? Our Phillipsburg fueling station will continue to offer gasoline with no Ethanol. This gasoline will be a blend of 55% V Subgrade and 45% Premium. All other locations (Logan, Prairie View and Speed) will continue selling E10, a blend of 90% gasoline and 10% Ethanol. Regarding gasoline choices to the farm, we will have both available out of our bulk plant. Rangeland Cooperatives, Inc. will do our best to keep you informed of any updates that may become available regarding this transition.
