RESTON YOUTH BASKETBALL 2017-2018 GIRLS TRAVEL COACHES Peter Barr 5th Grade Coach: Coach Barr is a graduate of The College of William and Mary and a native of Norfolk, Va. He played competitive basketball most of his life until he redirected his passion for the sport into coaching his two daughters. He has been coaching girls youth basketball for 10 years at both the house and travel league levels. This will be his 4th year coaching for RYBL girls travel. Coach Barr believes in developing strong skills and fundamentals while instilling a love for the game of basketball.
Anjelica Prince 6th Grade Coach A Richmond VA native, Coach Prince relocated to Arlington in 2012 after completing her Master's degree in Exercise Science. She has played competitive basketball throughout her youth and played varsity basketball all four years in high school. She also played club ball while attending college at VCU. Coach Prince is dedicated to youth sports as she spent 3 years as a coach for Girls on the Run as well as 4 years coaching girls basketball at both house and AAU levels. This will be Anjelica's first year with RYBL and she's very excited and looking forward to a great season.
Tony Cooch 7th Grade Coach Tony Cooch has coached Girls and Boys teams at various levels, ranging from house league to high school. He is currently in his third season as the head coach of the freshman boys basketball team at Oakton High School. For the past three years Tony has served as the assistant head coach for Reston girls travel basketball at the 5th through 6th grade levels. While at Reston, his teams completed two undefeated seasons and have won two consecutive league championships. In addition, Tony is the co-head coach of Nova 94 AAU girls basketball 2023 team. His girls have been successful at the local and national level and are the current Potomac Valley AAU division 1 district champions.
Erin DeGutis 7th Grade Coach: Coach DeGutis is a graduate of James Madison University and Oakton HS. She played basketball for two years at Oakton before switching over to the track program where she competed at the state level. She was an assistant coach for house basketball during high school and worked as a referee in college. This is her third year coaching travel basketball for Reston. In 2015 she led the 5th Grade Reston D2 team to a runner-up trophy in the end of season tournament.
Renata Spinks –8th Grade Coach As a former decorated college student athlete, Renata “Coach Re” Spinks brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Reston Youth Basketball League. She began coaching in North Carolina while volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club inclusive of team coaching and one on one private skills clinics for both male and female athletes. In 2016, Coach Re led the Reston Youth House Basketball League Boys 16-18 Year Olds Team to the House League Championship. For the 2017 sports season, she served as the 8th Grade Division 2 Reston Girls Basketball Coach. Her basketball philosophy is to teach basketball fundamentals, along with concepts of team play and work ethic. She expects discipline and hard work each time a player steps on the court. Coach Re believes in two basketball mantras: First “Don’t cheat in practice. Don't disrespect the opportunity to play the game. In return the game will reward you with lifetime benefits and game time achievements.” Second, “While we all like to win…..in every loss there is always an opportunity to learn and develop” Coach Re is a cyber-security executive and actively serves in several roles focused on Women in Technology and STEM Careers.
