Basic Steps to Reverse Transfer 1. Identify potential students from Bachelor Institution 2. Transfer data to Associate Awarding Institution 3. Associate Awarding Institution notifies students of potential eligibility 4. Students request transcripts to be sent to Awarding Institution 5. Degree Audit conducted by Awarding Institution 6. Associate Degree Awarded to student

Ohio Infrastructure • Strong transfer credit and applicability system among all public institutions (4 year and 2 year). • All schools are required to send transcripts to other Ohio public institutions using XML format. • Articulation and Transfer Clearinghouse is an electronic hub within the Ohio Board of Regents where all electronic transcripts flow through (provides data control). • Schools can choose to pull the data in XML format, pdf format, or both. • Most institutions can import XML data into their SIS or degree audit system.

Ohio State University Model • Query SIS for students who have transferred from specific 2 year institutions who might meet eligibility requirements. • Communicate with students and receive FERPA release. • Run degree audits for students who affirm data release. • Submit a batch of transcripts to 2 year institution (note this cycle repeats once per semester or year). • 2 year institution reviews and awards a degree when appropriate. • 2 year institution submits a revised transcript to Ohio State in order to allow us to update prior degree information (also prevents asking again)

Whose decision is it to award a degree (student or institutions)? Could a 2 year school award multiple associate degrees? Could a student earn the same associate degree from multiple 2 year institutions? Should regional campuses of 4 year schools (who can award associate degrees) award degrees before students move to the main campus? Could a 4 year school decide to award an associate degree to every student in year two or three of their instruction? Should students pay transcript fee? Should the answer be the same for transfer as for reverse transfer.
