SERIES HISTORY Manhattan and Rider are meeting for the second time in 11 days. The Lady Jaspers posted a 71-43 victory over the Broncs at Alumni Gymnasium on Jan. 13. Last season at Draddy Gymnasium, Manhattan notched a 56-44 win on Jan. 3, 2010. The Lady Jaspers hold a 23-8 all-time edge, but the teams have split the season series in each of the last two campaigns. WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME The Lady Jaspers saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with a 75-52 loss to first-place Marist at Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Manhattan scored the first points of the game on an Abby Wentworth three-pointer, but Marist quickly countered with a 10-0 run and never looked back. The Red Foxes led by as many as 19 points in the first half and held a 38-21 advantage at the break. Marist scored the first nine points of the second half to extend their lead to 26 before the Lady Jaspers responded with an 8-0 rally to trim their deficit to 47-29. However, Manhattan would pull no closer. Marist pushed its lead to as many as 31 points before the Lady Jaspers ended the game on a 9-3 rally to make the final 75-52. Wentworth tallied a game-high 20 points, while Monica Roeder added 16 points. Flood finished her career with 1,399 points, good for fifth place on the Lady Jaspers’ all-time list, and 600 rebounds. She was named First Team All-MAAC as a senior in 200708, then went overseas to begin a professional career. Catalanotto averaged 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.3 assists per game during her two seasons at Rider. QUITE A DEBUT Freshman guard/forward Monica Roeder had an impressive collegiate debut against St. Francis (NY) on Nov. 12. She tallied a game-high 20 points, going 7-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from three-point range in the 63-34 victory. Roeder also tallied five rebounds against the Terriers. That performance earned her MAAC Player of the Week honors on Nov. 15. Roeder became the first freshman to start the season opener since Abby Wentworth in 2007-08. MAAC Player of the Week on Jan. 17. She averaged 21.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 4.3 steals while shooting .415 from the field, .500 from three-point range, and .857 at the fre throw line in the three games. Wentworth had 21 points, five assists and four rebounds against Saint Peter’s, then notched 24 points, one shy of her careerhigh, three assists and six steals in the victory at Rider. She capped her week with a 19-point, six-steal effort in the win at Fairfield. ABBY DOES IT ALL Senior captain Abby Wentworth is flourishing in her new role as the Lady Jaspers’ starting point guard. Wentworth leads the MAAC in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game. She also ranks second in the conference in assists (4.2 apg) and steals (3.2 spg). Wentworth is eighth nationally in steals. The team leader in all three categories, she also averages 4.6 rebounds per contest, the third-best mark on the team. She has reached double figures in the scoring column 13 times, including four 20-point efforts, and is the only Lady Jasper averaging double-digit scoring. Wentworth also leads the MAAC in minutes played, averaging 36.1 per outing. MOVING UP THE CHARTS Several Lady Jaspers have made a dent in the program’s all-time lists this season. With three treys at St. John’s on Nov. 16, junior guard Alyssa Herrington moved past Tonya Obey into fourth place on the Lady Jaspers’ all-time three-pointers list. She currently has 136 career treys. Junior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer has also moved into the top 10 with 74 career three-pointers, which ranks ninth. Against Marist on Jan. 22, junior forward Nadia Peters recorded her 100th career block, becoming just the third player in program history to reach that milestone. Senior guard Abby Wentworth is ninth on Manhattan’s all-time chart with 194 career steals, two shy of eighth-place Wanda Camps and seven behind Siobhan Kilkenny for seventh place. RACE TO 1,000 There are just 17 members of Manhattan’s 1,000-point club, but two different Lady Jaspers have a chance to join their ranks this season. Senior guard Abby Wentworth is the Lady Jaspers’ active career scoring leader with 873 points, while junior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer has 837 career points. A pair of teammates have reached the 1,000point plateau in the same season four times in program history. Marianne Reilly and all-time leading scorer Sheila Tighe, Manhattan’s first two 1,000-point scorers, both reached the 1,000-point plateau during the 1981-82 season. The most recent pair of teammates to achieve the feat were Rosalee Mason and Tiffany Schettig, who both reached the mark in 2002-03. DE-FENSE, DE-FENSE Defense has been one of the Lady Jaspers’ trademarks this season. As a team, the Lady Jaspers rank second in the MAAC in scoring defense, allowing 50.9 points per game. The Lady Jaspers have held their opponents under 60 in 15 of 18 contests, including 11 games when they allowed less than 50 points (and two where they gave up less than 40). In their 12 wins, the Lady Jaspers have surrendered more than 50 points just twice, limiting their opponents to just 44.4 points per game. Manhattan’s 49-45 win at Fordham on Dec. 18 marked the Lady

ALMOST RECORD-SETTING The Lady Jaspers’ 71-32 win over Niagara on Jan. 8 was their largest victory since beating Brown 80-39 on Dec. 8, 2000. Niagara’s 32 points in the game were the fewest scored against Manhattan since Columbia was held to 30 in 1991-92. The 39-point win equaled the second-largest margin of victory in a MAAC game in program history. The Lady Jaspers also won by 39 points when they beat Loyola 83-44 during the 1990-91 campaign. Manhattan’s largest MAAC win was a 40-point, 115-75 victory over Canisius on Feb. 11, 1996. WE’RE GOING STREAKING After failing to notch even three consecutive wins during either of the past two seasons, the Lady Jaspers have put together two different four-game winning streaks in 2010-11. The Lady Jaspers won four straight from Nov. 23-Dec. 6, and again from Jan. 8-16. The team also put together a three-game winning streak from Dec. 18-30. Prior to this season, the Lady Jaspers’ last four-game winning streak was from Jan. 2-11, 2004. The last time Manhattan strung together more than four consecutive victories, the Lady Jaspers won a program-record 13 straight from Jan. 7-Feb. 21, 2003. Manhattan went on to capture the MAAC title that season. NON-CONFERENCE NO PROBLEM The Lady Jaspers posted an 8-3 record during non-conference play, the program’s best non-conference mark since going 9-2 during the 1999-2000 season. Since Manhattan joined the MAAC in 1981-82, the program record for non-conference victories in a season is 14 in 1986-87. That season, the Lady Jaspers won their first MAAC Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. MANHATTAN IN THE MAAC The Lady Jaspers rank among the top three in the MAAC in 13 different statistical categories. As a team, Manhattan leads the league in turnover margin (+6.0) and steals (11.7). Nationally, the Lady Jaspers rank 13th and 22nd, respectively, in the two categories. Manhattan is second in the MAAC, and among the national leaders, in scoring defense (50.9). The Lady Jaspers also rank second in the MAAC in scoring offense (58.6), free throw percentage (.744), assists (12.6), and assist/turnover ratio (0.8). Manhattan currently ranks third in the MAAC in scoring margin (+7.7), field goal percentage (.379), three-point percentage (.335), field goal defense (.368) and three-point field goals (6.4). DAYTIME DIVAS Tonight’s contest is just Manhattan’s second night game of the 2011 calendar year. After playing 11 consecutive night games to open the season, the Lady Jaspers are in the midst of a span where they play 11 of 13 games in the afternoon. The only other night game during the stretch was the 58-44 victory at Saint Peter’s on Jan. 10. That contest also got underway at 7 p.m. Manhattan’s next night game
Game 19: vs Rider-1/24/11
won’t be until Feb. 14, when it hosts Iona at 7 p.m.

THREE MORE GOING GREEN A trio of players signed National Letters of Intent to come to Manhattan for the 2011-12 season during the NCAA’s early signing period. The Lady Jaspers’ nationally-ranked recruiting class includes Sheba Hall, a 5-5 point guard from Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, Nicole Isaacs, a 5-7 guard at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in New Jersey, and 6-1 forward Ashley Stec, who was a first team all-conference selection last season at Cazenovia High School in Cazenovia, N.Y. SIZING UP THE LADY JASPERS This season’s roster has an average height of 5-10 1/2. Five Lady Jaspers stand 6-0 or taller, including 6-3 centers Alicia Marculitis and Brandone Roberts, the tallest players on the squad. Nadia Peters is 6-1, while Lindsey Loutsenhizer and Monica Roeder are both 6-0. The shortest members of the team are 5-6 guard Ondya Morgan and 5-7 guard Allison Skrec. EAST COAST BIAS Of the 14 players on the roster, 13 are originally from the East coast. In fact, seven members of the squad call either New York (four) or New Jersey (three) home. Two Lady Jaspers are from Massachusetts, while Maine, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia are represented by one player each. The only Lady Jasper whose local time zone isn’t the Eastern time zone is Jazmine Jarvis, who hails from the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, Nev. MAAC TURNS 30 This season marks the 30th anniversary of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Manhattan was one of the conference’s six founding members, and is one of four schools to have been a part of the MAAC since the beginning. Along with Manhattan, fellow charter members Fairfield, Iona and Saint Peter’s have been in the MAAC since the conference was formed in 1980. PRESEASON POLL Manhattan, which finished fourth in MAAC last season, was picked to finish fourth again in the conference’s annual preseason coaches’ poll. Five-time defending champion Marist was the unanimous pick to repeat, collecting all 10 first-place votes and 100 points in the poll. Iona was a unanimous choice to finish second, earning 90 points, followed by Loyola (70). The Lady Jaspers and Fairfield finished in a tie for fourth, picking up 64 points each. Rounding out the poll were Niagara (51), Canisius (44), Siena (34), Saint Peter’s (20) and Rider (13). MAAC HONORS After earning a place on the All-MAAC Second Team last season, junior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer was named to the 2010-11 Preseason All-MAAC First Team. Loutsenhizer led the Lady Jaspers in both scoring and rebounding a year ago, averaging 15.3 points and 6.5 boards per game, ranking among the Top 10 in the MAAC in both categories. She also led the MAAC with 17.5 points per outing

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND Manhattan just concluded a three-game road trip where each contest took place outside the State of New York. The Lady Jaspers went to New Jersey for the matchups with Saint Peter’s and Rider, then went to Connecticut for the meeting with Fairfield. Those were three of just five games this season that Manhattan plays in another state, as 24 of the Lady Jaspers’ 29 regular season games are in the Empire State. The Lady Jaspers’ only remaining out-of-state contest is the rematch with Loyola in Baltimore on Feb. 2. Manhattan’s only non-conference game in another state was the 61-49 victory at Maryland Eastern Shore on Dec. 6. The Lady Jaspers’ other non-conference road games were against New York schools St. Francis (NY), St. John’s, Fordham and Cornell. BRIDGEPORT BOUND After a three-year stint at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y., the MAAC Tournament moves to Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn., this season. This marks the second time that the MAAC Tournament will be held in Bridgeport, following the 2007 event. In 2012, the tournament will begin a three-year run at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. NATIONAL EXPOSURE Along with the new venue, comes a new schedule for the MAAC Tournament. For the first time, the women’s championship game will be played on Monday afternoon, March 7, prior to the men’s championship game on Monday night. In addition, it will be broadcast live on ESPNU. To accomodate the schedule change, the two surviving women’s teams will now be given a day off on Sunday following Saturday’s semifinals. The rest of the schedule remains the same as years past, with first-round games taking place on Thursday and the quarterfinals being played on Friday. The Lady Jaspers’ game at Canisius on Jan. 28 will also be nationally televised on ESPNU as a part of the MAAC’s television package with the network. CONFERENCE CALL Manhattan took on teams from eight different conferences during its 11-game non-conference slate. The Lady Jaspers faced a pair of opponents from the America East Conference (Albany, New Hampshire), Ivy League (Columbia, Cornell) and Patriot League (Army, Lafayette), as well as teams from the Atlantic 10 (Fordham), Big East (St. John’s), Great West (NJIT), Mid-Eastern Athletic (Maryland Eastern Shore) and Northeast (St. Francis) Conferences. OH CANADA The Lady Jaspers actually opened their season at the end of August, when they took a week-long trip to Canada and played three exhibition games against local universities. Manhattan went 3-0 on the trip, posting a 74-68 victory over UQAM, a 53-52 triumph at the University of Ottawa and a 76-65 win against Carleton University. The Lady Jaspers also got the chance to tour the cities of Montreal and Ottawa. The team’s experiences during the trip were chronicled in the “North of the Border Blog” on www.gojaspers.com.

PINK ZONE For the fourth straight season, the Lady Jaspers will participate in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “Pink Zone” initiative for breast cancer awareness. Last season, over 900 schools participated, including all 10 MAAC institutions. This season’s “Pink Zone” contest will be the game against Iona on Feb. 14. Manhattan is also hosting “Hoops for Cancer Night” for the second straight year this evening. In September, the entire team and coaching staff manned a water station at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which drew more than 25,000 runners to Central Park West. WHAT’S A JASPER? Manhattan has the only athletic program in Division I with the nickname “Jaspers.” The unique nickname came from one of Manhattan’s most memorable figures, Brother Jasper of Mary, F.S.C. Brother Jasper served the College in the late 1800s and served as the first coach of Manhattan’s baseball team. He is credited as the creator of the “seventh-inning stretch,” which has become a time-honored tradition at ballparks across the country. During a game in the 1880s, Brother Jasper noticed students getting restless in the middle of the seventh inning of a close game, so he called timeout and told the students to stand up a stretch for a few minutes before resuming the game. Since Manhattan regularly played the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds in the 1880s and into the 1890s, the tradition spread into the major leagues.
Let’s Meet the Starting Lineup Manhattan has used six starting lineups in 2010-11. Eight different players have started a game for the Lady Jaspers.
