8th grade science students will soon be exploring “Why do different locations on Earth experience different climates?” In this unit students will be allowed to explore specific parts of this question that are most interesting to them. Last week students entered into an engineering design challenge. The winners from each class were chosen based on overall efficiency. (How did the model work in comparison to how much “money” was spent to build it?” Winning design teams are posted below! We wrapped up our time before spring break doing our State Assessments.

Mr. Emling-P.E. The Physical Education Department is having a busy semester. We recently finished with the Winter Olympics. We had competitions in the Human Curling, 2 and 4 person bobsledding, speed skating, biathlon and impressive figure skating. The students and faculty had a blast learning about and doing the events. Next we will take advantage of Spring weather when possible and get students outside to explore more activities. This semester we have focused on our National Physical Education Standard 3, “Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to achieve and maintain a health-enhanced level of physical activity and fitness.” Students have learned about the FITT principle which is, Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type. Quiz your child on each of these words and they should be able to explain what each represents.

Mr. Varndell-Computer Concepts Computer Concepts has several things going on right now. In 7th grade we have been working on Digital Citizenship. This is an important topic for everyone to know about but especially our students. In digital citizenship we cover things like what information is safe to give out online, how you should create strong passwords, and how you should treat others online. In the 8th grade class we have been working on block based programming creating games and animations. We have even been using the coding to fly drones. It is a fun class to be in right now.
