22697-Q - Teal leaf texture • Cut (9) 5 ½″ x WOF strips; recut into (80) 4 ½″ x 5 ½″ rectangles, label E.

Cutting Directions WOF = width of fabric from selvedge to selvedge. Label all pieces with the letters given in the cutting list. These letters are used to identify the pieces throughout the instructions.

22698-QA - Teal/brown plaid • Cut (14) 1 ½″ x WOF strips; recut into (40) 1 ½″ x 5 ½″ strips (label B) and (40) 1 ½″ x 7 ½″ strips (label C). • Cut (9) 2 ½″ x WOF strips for binding.

22694-A - Animal multiprint • Fussy-cut (10) 5 ½″ squares with a moose centered in each and (10) 5 ½″ squares with a bear centered in each; label A.

5. Sew a brown J square to a stripe I square, paying careful attention to the positioning of the stripe. Press seam toward the J square. Stitch a teal H square to a stripe I square. Press seam toward the H square. Join the (2) pieced strips to complete (1) 4 ½″ x 4 ½″ corner unit. Press seam to one side. Repeat to make 80 corner units.

Note: Use a ¼″ seam allowance for all stitching. 1. Sew a plaid B strip to opposite sides of each moose and bear A square. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch a plaid C strip to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips. 2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each brown D and F square. 3. Place a marked D square each corner of the pieced moose/bear units, right sides together. Stitch on the marked lines. Trim seam allowance to ¼″. Press the brown corners to the right sides. Complete (20) 7 ½″ x 7 ½″ block centers.

6. Sew a side unit between (2) corner units to make the top block row. Press seams toward the corner units. Repeat to make the bottom block row. Stitch a moose block center between (2) side units to make the center block row. Press seams toward the block center. Join the rows to complete (1) 15 ½″ x 15 ½″ moose block. Press seams toward the center row. Repeat to make 10 moose blocks total. Repeat with the bear block centers to make 10 bear blocks total, pressing seams toward the side units in the block rows and away from the center row in the completed blocks.

4. Repeat step 3 with marked F squares and the teal E rectangles, placing the squares on the corners of a 5 ½″ side. Add a tan leaf G strip to opposite sides of each pieced unit to complete (80) 4 ½″ x 7 ½″ side units. Press seams toward the G strips.

3. Join the rows to complete the 60 ½″ x 75 ½″ quilt center, alternating the moose and bear rows. Press seams to one side.

Note: Refer to the quilt drawing on page 1 for the following steps.

4. Sew the 1 ½″ brown texture strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into (2) 75 ½″ strips and (2) 62 ½″ strips. Sew the longer strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

1. Sew (2) moose blocks alternately together with (2) bear blocks, beginning with a moose block to make a moose row. Press seams toward the moose blocks. Repeat to make (3) moose rows total.

5. Sew the 6 ½″ tan animal print strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into (2) 77 ½″ strips and (2) 74 ½″ strips. Stitch the longer strips to the long sides and the shorter strips to the top and bottom to complete the quilt top. Press seams toward the strips.

2. Sew (2) bear blocks alternately together with (2) moose blocks, beginning with a bear block to make a bear row. Press seams toward the moose blocks. Repeat to make (2) bear rows total.

6. Remove the selvedge edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a  ½″ seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the side edges to make an 82″ x 97″ backing piece. 7. Layer, quilt, and bind using your favorite methods and the teal/brown plaid binding strips to complete the quilt.
