Sailcar – Assembly Instructions

In addition to the printed parts you will need:    

2 rubber bands paperclips clippers (to cut the paperclips) pliers (to bend the paperclips)

1) Cut the paperclips into two 2.5 cm segments, two 3.2 cm segments, and one 2 cm segment. Bend one end of each segment (except for one of the 3.2 cm segments) into a 90 degree elbow that is at most 0.4 cm long.

2) Thread a rubber band through the loops on the latch piece

3) Affix the latch piece to the hinge on the rear of the chassis using the bent 3.2 cm segment of paperclip and stretch the rubber band between the two hooks as shown.

4) Bend the sail piece slightly along the groove and attach it to the sail frame by lining up the pegs on the frame with the holes on the groove and pressing them together.

5) With a rubber band attached to the hook on the front of the sail frame, align the hinge on the frame with the hinge on the front of the chassis and use the straight 3.2 cm paperclip segment as the axle.

6) You may need to loop the rubber band a few times to get the desired amount of tension depending on what size rubber band you use.

7) The hub and tire pieces snap together. Use the 2 cm paperclip segment as an axle for the front wheel and the remaining 2.5 cm segments as axles for the rear wheels. Bend the other end of each paper clip to keep the axle in place.

8) The final step is to attach the hull piece. Make sure that you remove all support material from the hull piece. If the wheels don’t turn freely after you have attached the hull it is likely due to support material that was not removed. Place the hull piece upside down on a flat surface and press the assembled chassis into it. Make sure that the rubber band on the back slides into the groove as shown above.

9) Finished.

Happy Printing!
