Sales Manager Department: Business Reports To: Business Operations Officer Supervises: Account Executives Hours: To be scheduled around class schedule during normal business hours (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) Paid: Weekly stipend The sales manager is responsible for generating all sales revenue for the Minnesota Daily, the independent studentrun news organization at the University of Minnesota. This includes print and online advertising, social media, event sales, and development of new products. The manager leads a team of account executives and works closely with the creative, digital, and marketing managers to present a comprehensive package to clients wanting to reach the campus market. Responsibilities: Set and achieve revenue goals Hire and train Account Executives, including ongoing training beyond initial hiring Supervise account executives, monitoring sales activity and setting sales goals Analyze performance versus goals Ensure excellent customer service and satisfaction Conduct weekly group and individual sales meetings Manage day-to-day operations of the sales department Manage ad sales, production and placement of ads on web site and social media Set sales and production deadlines; plan publication schedule, including special issues Provide sales and promotional materials for account executives; suggest ad prospects Work cooperatively with Marketing Director to generate sponsorships and promotions Collaborate with Creative Director to design sales materials and ensure ads run correctly Process department payroll and commissions Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Must be currently-enrolled University of Minnesota Student Experience in advertising sales and customer service required Strong work ethic & self-motivated Strong problem-solving skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Attention to detail Accountability Goal-oriented Ability to lead and inspire a staff Must be currently-enrolled University of Minnesota student with at least two semesters remaining before graduation. This is a management-level position that requires some prior knowledge and/or experience in advertising sales and customer service.
