San Carlos Ranch Location: In the center of South Texas quail country, this Jim Hogg county ranch sits 25 miles South of Hebbronville on the East side of hwy 1017. The San Carlos ranch is approx. 1,100 ac. Quiet and not too close to anything, this ranch serves as real get-away. Hwy 1017 is in good condition and makes travel easy, but you better get what you need before heading out to the ranch because it’s a long way back to town. The Jim Hogg County Airport is approx 30 miles away, and the McAllen International Airport is about an hour and a half drive. Access: Is located on the West fence line of the ranch where it borders hwy 1017 for approx 1.5 miles. There are two gates on the West fence that join hwy 1017.
>McAllen - approx. 80 mi. >San Antonio - approx. 190 mi >Laredo - approx. 80 mi. >Corpus Christi - approx. 125 mi. >Port Mansfield - approx. 65 mi.
Facilities / Utilities: There are no structures or housing on the property. Electricity is strung down the entire West fence line and is fed into the property approx. 2,000 ft. to an abandoned camp site and water well; an excellent spot for developing a new camp site.
Fencing: The entire perimeter of the ranch, except the 1.5 miles of hwy frontage, is high fenced and in good condition. The interior fencing divides the ranch into two pastures. Water: The San Carlos is very well watered. with four water wells scattered across the property, one can be sure that wildlife does not have to go far for water. Well depths are in the 100 ft range and provide good household water. Two of the wells utilize windmills for pumping water, on one well the water is drawn by a submersible pump, and the fourth well currently does not have any devise for drawing water but is located approx. 100ft from electricity. Wildlife: Is as good as it gets! At the San Carlos Ranch, one can be sure to run across any of the common South Texas native species. But what makes this ranch stand out is it’s outstanding Bobwhite Quail country. Out of the 1,100 ac, 75% is native grass country, open enough for turning out bird dogs but tight enough to keep from covering too much country in a hunt. The other 25% is a scattered mix of tight brush thickets that provide a diversified mixture of woody like species, interceded with a mix of native grasses and Buffel grass. These areas create excellent cover and vegetation for all wildlife. The deer hunting on the San Carlos is as outstanding as the quail hunting. It would be impossible to trade one for the other.
