The Third Sunday committee will be conducting the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit St. Michael’s parish food pantry this weekend. The need is especially great this year, with worsening employment and general economic conditions taking a toll on struggling families. Volunteers will be collecting nonperishable food and cash donations at all Masses to help the dozens of struggling families that St. Michael’s supports. St. Michael’s requests contributions of either Thanksgiving-related food items or ordinary food staples such as canned tuna, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, breakfast cereals, pasta, spaghetti sauce, coffee, etc. You can also make cash donations, which will go toward the purchase of turkeys and perishable food items. (Checks can be made out to St. Dunstan’s Church.) Either way, parishioners can make their donations outside the main entrance to the church OR at a special offering during the Mass. Your generosity is a powerful statement of faith in action, and it is greatly appreciated.

THIRTY–THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Campaign for Human Development
HOUSE OF BREAD
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) will be held next weekend in the Archdiocese of Hartford. This collection supports works of charity and justice by funding community groups whose goals are to solve problems and change policies that keep low-‐income residents in poverty. The Connecticut Public Housing Residents Network (PHRN) is among the groups in our area that receive funding assistance from CCHD. PHRN is a statewide organization of public housing residents that is committed to providing a voice for residents in the decision that affect their lives and their communities at the local, state and federal levels. Through PHRN, public housing residents and their allies are fighting to preserve and improve public housing as a vital housing resource for low-‐ income families. Groups that receive funding from CCHD find problems that affect them and then work to find just solutions. Through CCHD, the Catholic Church is working to seek justice and reflect Catholic social teaching. I ask you today to do your part to help the efforts of CCHD to break the cycle of poverty, by being generous in next week’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection. Please keep in mind that 25% of our local collections’ proceeds stays here in our own archdiocese, where it is put to good use by local community organizations working to fight poverty in our communities and to defend the dignity of our neighbors. Be sure once again of my grateful prayers and all best wishes.
St. Dunstan’s community will be serving lunch to the needy at the House of Bread located at 27 Chestnut Street, Hartford on the third Wednesday of this month. If you can provide any of the following items; unused travel size shampoo and deodorant, fruit punch, iced tea, lemonade mix, disposable forks, garbage bags (39 gallon), disposable cups, hot or cold, used or new hand, dish or bath towels; please label the item “House of Bread” and, prior to Wednesday, please leave items in the hall in the container behind the screen marked “House of Bread.” If you would like more information on our ministry at House of Bread, please call Chet Pelka at 633-‐6441 or email at
