Rotary cutter Self-healing cutting mat – I recommend a mat at least 18”x24”. With this size, you can cut a whole folded width of fabric easily. Sewing machine that you are familiar with, in good working order – don’t forget the accessories box for your machine, extra bobbins, and the foot pedal!! o A note about bobbins – to keep the sewing going in class, think about filling a bobbin or two with thread beforehand. It saves your time in class for SEWING!!  Extra sewing machine needles – I like Universals or Sharps in a size 80/12 for piecing quilts Thread – cotton thread in a neutral color (gray, white, cream, black, etc.) for piecing Surge protector for your machine for use in the classroom. (This is just a smart thing to use with your sewing machine ANYWHERE you sew, but especially in a place where multiple machines are using the same circuit…) Pins –I like glass-head straight pins that are at least 1 3/8” long. Small scissors to cut threads Seam ripper Pen or pencil for notes If you have a box of sewing supplies, bring this, just in case I’ve forgotten to include something…  Lunch, and maybe a snack. (If you’re anything like me, snacking while sewing ALWAYS helps.)

Book: Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nybert and Cheryl Arkinson Scrappy Slabs Quilt Needs:  Scraps sorted by color and value – at least 5 different colors. If you want to copy mine, I did the same blocks listed on page 104 of the book. After sorting I found that I was missing some colors, so if needed, buy 1/8-1/4 yard pieces of 6 or 7 different color families to fill in your holes. We can also select these during class, as well.  Block Centers: White fabric scraps totaling at least a ¼ yard. If you want to start cutting something before class, you can cut 25 white rectangles, which measure between 2” and 6” on each side. (I found that I had some leftovers from a couple other projects, so I just used those to start, then cut smaller and larger pieces for contrast…)  Rotary cutting rulers: 6”x24” and a 12 ½” or 15” square (15” is best…)  Spray starch – I like Best Press, which is available at Running Stitch Fabrics

Small Ironing Board Small Ironing Board Needs:  WOOD TV Tray – available at Target and Walmart. Plastic won’t work as an ironing board. The top of my tray is approximately 20” x 16”.  Two pieces of cotton batting, measuring at least 23” x 20” each.  One package of Insul-bright insulated heat-resistant batting, which is available at Running Stitch Fabrics  ½ yard of fabric that matches the décor of your sewing room.   Pinking shears, if you have them. Heidi will have staple guns and hammers, so don’t worry about that.
