homes last fall that are coming ready right now, in two showplace communities in the city of Thornton. “People are getting tired of being outbid,” says Kirk Boulet, who will show you two big-family model homes at Meritage’s newly opened Aspen Reserve, just north of E. 120th Avenue on Quebec, along with a selection of homes that can be ready for move-in soon. Boulet hears horror stories from buyers who have shopped older homes in the area – including one counteroffer where a bidder said “I’ll pay $20,000 more than any other offer you get.” Meritage takes that factor out of the equation, along with concerns that come with buying 10- or 20-year-old houses. “I like new,” said Lisa Fucci of Commerce City, who was touring Aspen Reserve as a possible move-up for her, her husband Ken and their three kids. She was admiring Meritage’s kitchens – the wider counterspace, and an owner’s entry area separating it from the garage, as an added pantry or home management area. Boulet filled her in on some added features he says few buyers know anything about when they walk into the models -Meritage’s state-of-the-art energy package that performs well beyond average new homes; miles beyond homes built a decade ago. If you like the looks of that home, you’ll find one like it ready for move-in now – almost 2,400 square feet finished, with three bedrooms, 2-1/2 baths, full basement and a three-car tandem garage, set to deliver at $470,173. Like numbers of other homes that Meritage has near-ready in Thornton at Aspen Reserve or Lewis Pointe (E. 144th Avenue at Elm), it already has numerous upgrades,
including granite countertops and upgraded cabinets. Buy it or any other home Meritage has on track for early delivery at Aspen Reserve or Lewis Pointe and you can take $5,000 toward special appliances. Both of those neighborhoods are served by Adams 12 Five-Star Schools and Thornton’s lineup of recreational amenities. At Lewis Pointe, you’ll see where a park and trails are arriving in a setting close to Horizon High School and Thornton’s $19.5 million VMAC aquatics center. A three-bedroom Granby ranch
plan is ready there now, at $526,820. “The value for your money is much greater here in Thornton than in areas west of I-25,” adds Boulet. To reach Lewis Pointe from I-25, take 144th Avenue east three miles and turn south at Elm. To reach Aspen Reserve, head east from I-25 on 120th Avenue four miles to Quebec and turn north. – Mark Samuelson writes on real estate and business; you can email him at
