Seattle University Intramural Sports 3on3 Basketball Rules

NIRSA Federation Rules will govern play. Intramural policies, procedures, eligibility requirements, etc., and specific rule modifications will take precedent. 1. GENERAL INFORMATION 1.1. All Intramural Sports participants are required to carry his/her Seattle University issued Student ID Card at all times and must bring the card to all games. Intramural Sports Staff will check all participant IDs with the printed team roster before any player will be allowed to participate. 1.2. The Intramural Sports Program does not carry health or accident insurance for the participants. All full-time undergraduate students at Seattle University receive health insurance as part of their tuition costs. 1.2.1. For part-time undergraduate, graduate, and law school students, a low-cost health insurance program is offered by Seattle University for purchase. For more information visit the Student Health Center website at www.seattleu.edu/student/health/. 1.2.2. Each participant should check their personal coverage and be certain that their medical insurance is adequate and current before participating in any activity. 1.3. It is the responsibility of every person participating in intramural sports to ascertain whether they have any health conditions, which make it inadvisable to participate in that sport. Seattle University and IM Sports Program does not assume that responsibility. Persons who are uncertain should consult their physician 1.4. For any rules/policies not addressed, please refer to the Intramural Sports Policy Book. This can be found on imleagues.com or at University Recreation website (http://www.seattleu.edu/recreation) 2. SCHEDULING 2.1. The first day of the tournament will consist of pool play games for seeding. Each team will receive 2 pool play games. You may not know your first pool play game until the day of the tournament. Playoff games may be scheduled on site following the results of pool play matches. 3. THE GAME 3.1. The game shall be played to 21 points in a win by two format or the first team to 25 points. 3.1.1. Field goals will be worth 1 point while 3-point shots will be worth only 2 points 3.1.2. After each scored basket the non-scoring team will receive possession of the ball 3.2. There will be a running clock of 25 minutes. 3.2.1. If the clock runs out prior to a team reaching 21 points, the team who is leading at the buzzer will be granted the win. 3.2.2. If the clock runs out with the score tied, a sudden death will take place. The first team to score will be granted the win 3.3. The game is played one half of a basketball court 3.4. The ball will be checked in at half court and the player must pass the ball in to start play. After every made basket, the ball will be checked in at mid court. The ball must also be

cleared beyond the three-point line after every missed shot that results in a change of possession. Scoring a basket and failing to clear the ball beyond the three-point arc will result in a loss of possession and the basket will not count. 3.5. Each team will be granted one time out per game that will last 30 seconds. 3.6. Jump balls will be awarded to the defense 4. EQUIPMENT 4.1. Captains from both teams must agree on the game ball. If discrepancy, officials will choose the game ball. 4.2. Equipment representing possible hazards to all participants in a game will not be permitted to be worn during a game. Elbow, hand, finger, wrist or forearm guard, cast or brace made of hard and unyielding leather, plastic, pliable (soft) plastic, metal or any other hard substance, even though covered with soft padding, shall always be declared illegal. Knee braces will be permitted if padded and metal is not exposed. Players may not wear jewelry or other accessories of any kind. Failure to remove ANY such equipment when asked to do so will result in that specific player not being allowed to participate until the equipment is removed. THIS INCLUDES EARRINGS AND ALL SOFT JEWELRY. 4.3. Flat rubber-soled shoes are required. Open toed shoes are not allowed. 4.4. All players are required to wear jerseys with numbered front and back. Numbers must be clearly visible and consist of whole numerals from 0-99. Jerseys are available for checkout for the duration of the game or teams may supply their own legally numbered jerseys, provided they are all the same color. If both teams have the same or similar color of jersey, it will be determined by flip of a coin for who will be responsible for checking out jerseys. 5. PLAYERS & SUBSTITUTIONS 5.1. The Players 5.1.1. Teams must start the game with at least 3 players. 5.2. Substitutions 5.2.1. Players may substitute in on any stoppage in play 6. FOULS 6.1. The game is self-officiated. Fouls may be called by either team at any time. Fouls may be called on shots up to the time of the basket or on a miss, the ball hitting the rim or backboard 6.1.1. The fouled team will receive the ball at the check line 6.1.2. There are no free throws in 3on3 Basketball 6.2. Competitive Sports Managers will be on-site but will not call any fouls or violations unless absolutely necessary. Managers may call intentional or technical fouls and also eject players at any time.
