SECURE OVERRIDE

Empower staff and students to self manage web content access.

Protect. Empower. Control.

Are your teachers annoyed by web filters blocking their teaching content? We have a solution. Introducing Tesserent Secure Override. Empower staff to “temporarily” override existing content policy to allow student access to certain web pages. Reduce administration requests to IT Departments with a selfmanaged token access portal for teachers.

Restricted content: The IT Manager and Teachers’ Problem.

Educational material can be found in all corners of the Internet, but this doesn’t mean all material should necessarily be accessible. Sites with a wealth of content such as YouTube can enhance learning, as well as it can detract from productivity. Normally for teachers to allow Youtube access for students, they would contact the IT department and request an exemption for either a specific user or an entire site. This process takes time and places a burden on IT.

Solution: Tesserent Secure Override

Tesserent Secure Override places the ability to control and monitor content in the teachers’ hands. Teachers can issue (and revoke) a token for students to access otherwise blocked pages. Tokens can be generated for specific users, meetings or classrooms, along with a defined time duration for the elevated access.

Benefits

• Empower teachers to temporarily override _.web content policies • Reduce reliance on IT Department • Issue time-limited access tokens to students • Log and monitor accessed content

Control access, report usage.

With great power comes great responsibility. With this in mind, Secure Override provides logging for each token used and the sites accessed through its duration. Certain categories (defined by your policy) cannot be over-ridden by teachers. Administrators are able to view sites accessed down to a user level to ensure privileges are not being abused for each token that has been created.

Scenario: Allow temporary access to human anatomy web site.

A Biology teacher would like her class to access a website on human anatomy. The site is normally blocked by the school’s content policy as it falls inside the Nudity category. 5 minutes before her next class, the teacher logs onto the Secure Override portal and generates an access token valid for 1 hour. The portal displays a 7 digit PIN, that the teacher jots down. When the class commences, the teacher writes the 7 digit PIN on the whiteboard and explains to the class that by entering the PIN when they log onto the Internet, they will be able to access the normally blocked site. Alternatively, the teacher can complete this process in 15 seconds on the spot in class.

How Secure Override works 1 - Create access token

2 - Share access token PIN

3 - Access logged

Login to the Secure Override portal from your web browser. Select from the drop down menu the amount of time the access token is valid for.

A confirmation screen displays the access token’s 7 digit PIN. Staff and students can now enter the unique PIN to override the web filtering policy.

Teachers and IT Administrators can view what content is being accessed in realtime or via a retrospective report.
