”It costs no more to have my experience working for you.”—Joe Voordouw

Caterpillars for Christmas Anybody? The festive season is well and truly upon us and this can only mean one thing—it’s time to tuck into some delicious, deep fried caterpillars. Wait, what? Christmas in each country has its own quirks and traditions, like this one from southern Africa. But in case the fried Emperor Moth delicacy is not quite to your taste, and you’d like to try something new this season, let’s look at other weird and wonderful ways the world celebrates Christmas. When Santa Claus makes his pit stop in Ireland, chances are it won’t be for the usual milk and cookies. Instead, mince pies and a bottle of Guinness are left out for him—a much needed energy boost for the busy man. Let’s hope he can still operate his sleigh afterwards! In Japan, a different bearded old man is star of the day—Colonel Sanders. Unlike our traditional ham or turkey, Kentucky Fried Chicken is the fare of the day. Thanks to powerful marketing, people book their bucket of chicken months in advance and KFC restaurants are always crowded on a day which is otherwise business as usual. Getting to Christmas mass in the city of Caracas in Venezuela takes on an interesting spin. Literally. The busy streets are closed to traffic

allowing people to roller-skate to mass. Not recommended if you’re also partial to a Christmas eggnog! If you’re single and visiting the Czech Republic, throw a shoe over your shoulder on Christmas Day. If the toe points to the door you’re in luck— you will be married within the year. In the adjacent Slovakia, playing with food is encouraged. Loksa, a mixture of sweet poppy seed, bread and water is served on Christmas Eve. At the start of dinner, the head of the family throws a spoonful at the ceiling. The more mixture that sticks, the better the crops will be

the following year. Get throwing for next year’s vegetable garden! This Christmas, no matter where in the world you are, why not make your own annual tradition with your loved ones? You never know, it may just catch on!

In a country where there is approximately one real estate salesperson for every 350 people (yep, that’s about the same as the number of doctors) I realise you do have a choice. Thank you for choosing me. For me, this business is not all about making the sale; it’s about meeting the needs of my clients. If you ever have any question, big or small, about buying or selling, please call anytime. You might want to know the sale price of a particular home, approximately how much your home is worth in the current market or how much value a particular renovation or improvement might add. Perhaps you’re thinking of moving to a different part of the country Continued...

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. “It’s all sorted dear,” he says. “They’re both coming home for Christmas and they’re paying their own airfares!”

We are very happy with the effort, honesty and little chats we had. Thanks Joe.

She calls her Dad immediately and screams at the old man, “You are NOT getting divorced! Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing. DO YOU HEAR ME?!!!" and hangs up.

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “Like hell they’re getting divorced,” she shouts, “I'll take care of this.”

When Murray and I decided to sell the home we have lived in for 55 years we contacted Joe. We were so pleased we did, he made selling so easy for us. He was always in touch, his professionalism and understanding made our experience so much easier.

Chop and roast pumpkin for 45 mins until cooked. Meanwhile, melt chocolate in a double boiler (or very slowly in the microwave). In a blender blend: roast pumpkin, mascarpone, ginger and melted chocolate. Optionally add juice from 1 lemon and lemon rind.

“We can't stand the sight of each other any longer,” the old man says. “We're sick of each other, and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister on the Gold Coast and tell her!” He hangs up.

An elderly man in Auckland calls his son in Sydney and says: “I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing: 59 years of misery is well enough.”
