January 2016
Make 2016 Your Best Year Yet After a well-earned holiday we’re all back to work, full of energy and raring to go. Right? Time away from usual work responsibilities is a much needed break but what if we could enjoy regular downtime throughout the year? Roll in three magic words we’ve all heard thrown around: work, life, balance. Do you know research shows that between 1986 and 1996 work-life balance was mentioned just 32 times in the media? Jump to 2007 and it was mentioned 1674 times in a single year! It seems there was a time when the line between work and home was a lot clearer. So just how can we achieve this elusive work-life balance?
Sometimes we feel obliged to take on more than we can handle. But remember it’s okay to politely say “no” without feeling guilty (even Oprah said so at an evening in Auckland last month!) You’ll be left with more time for more important activities. For the perfectionists out there: once you stop trying to do everything, you can do anything. Think, does this really need to be done now? Prioritize to get the most pressing things done first. It may be hard at first, but the key with finding a healthy balance is to introduce changes gradually. We all
know about those diets that fizzle out, or quickly forgotten New Year’s resolutions. The same goes for worklife balance. Start small and build up. Make 2016 your best year yet!

Technology allows us to bring work home. Make a decision to separate work time from personal time. Silence that smartphone and switch off that laptop. Leave work at work. It will still be there tomorrow! When we are busy one of the first things to get cut from jam-packed schedules is exercise. Ironically, exercise actually helps boost energy levels and makes you more alert, ultimately allowing you to get more done. Save time—get moving at least twice a week.
Managing the blurred line between work and life can be a challenge.

expect the Property Press to soon display its own post-Christmas bulge! If you’re selling anytime in 2016, start thinking now about presentation, price and promotion—the three aspects of a sale. Presentation: This is the aspect over which you have most control. A wellpresented property—clean, tidy, uncluttered and with all maintenance items attended to—sells more quickly and for a better price than one that looks like a lot of hard work. Work in bite sized chunks: tick off one or two projects each weekend. Price: Get a feel for market value. Keep an eye on other, similar homes selling in the area. Call me continued…
