Put a Spring in Your Step When lambs, daffodils and magnolia flowers begin to appear it’s a sure sign spring is here. While it might be a cliché, spring is a season of new beginnings and it’s the perfect time to shrug off extra layers of clothing, increase your vitality, and emerge from that state of hibernation. Waking up from winter often takes place on different levels—physical, mental and spiritual—so set some goals, clear out clutter and get moving. If you’ve been stagnating during colder months, put on your trainers and take a tour around your neighbourhood or local park; fresh air and sunshine will do you good. It’s easy to overeat during winter, and spring is the ideal time to clean up your diet. Start by carefully reading food labels and ditch anything high in sugar. (For adults, the recommended daily maximum intake is 25g.) Shop for fresh produce and whole foods containing healthy fats. Avocados are abundant right now— enjoy them in smoothies and salads, or on their own.

While you’re cleaning up your diet, clear out your mental cobwebs. What aspects of your life drain your time and energy? Are you over-committing to people or activities that rob you of vitality? If so, make some changes. Maybe that means no screens after 8pm so you can get to bed earlier and wake feeling refreshed. Instead of watching TV, read or do some gentle stretching. Meditation or quiet reflection is a valuable daily practice that helps manage stress, focus on the present, and boost self-esteem. It only takes 10 minutes and anyone can do it. Use your increased physical and mental energy to reduce clutter in your living environment. You might want to set aside a weekend for a thorough spring clean, or write a list of smaller projects you can tackle as you have time. This September, set some new goals, reconnect with uplifting friends, plan a family outing and improve your outlook in preparation for a fantastic summer.

How to Choose the Best Agent to Sell Your Home Anyone with know-how can sell a house. But to get the best price the market has to offer you need a real estate agent who is a strong negotiator, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and in-depth local knowledge, as well as access to a large pool of buyers. To find the best agent, treat it like a job interview. Here’s a checklist to help you determine this before you sign-up.  Good communicator? Likeable? Look for someone who asks lots of questions, really listens and pays attention to details. Do you like them?  In-depth local knowledge? Do they have their finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the local market? Can they back up pricing estimates with solid, detailed research? Continued...

 Are they a strong negotiator? What strategies do they use to achieve the best price? Ask for an example of when and how they achieved a little extra money for a previous client. Note that someone who discounts their own fee may also discount your sale price.  Do they demonstrate followthrough? Arriving on time, fulfilling promises, following-up with you after the appointment is an indication of work ethic and how an agent will treat buyers.  What’s their track record? How many homes have they sold in your area? What do past clients have to say?  How will they attract buyers? Do they have a clear, well-thought out plan on how to sell your home? What are their reasons for the proposed method of sale? Do they use multiple advertising channels? You can only sell your home once. So do your research first then choose carefully.

As always, if you have any questions about buying or selling, please call us for friendly, no obligation advice. We’re here to help.
