Caister Infant, Nursery School and Children’s Centre
September Newsletter 2015 Friday11th September Welcome Back Welcome to a new school year. I hope you all enjoyed the summer. Welcome to the new children joining us in Foundation Stages One and Two and also to the children joining in Year Two. The children have settled well into their new classes and are already making new friends and having fun learning. We have another busy year ahead, dates for you diary are on the back of this newsletter, please do keep a note of them. We will inform you of events in more detail nearer the time. You can access these dates on our website and our school APP. We will also text you with some useful reminders. As many of you will be aware I am Acting Headteacher for the Autumn Term and Mr Nick Southgate will be joining the school as permanent Headteacher in January. He will be visiting the school and talking to myself and the staff; getting to know us, the school and the children. Together we aim to ensure that the school runs smoothly and we provide the very best for your children. We have had three new members of staff start with us this term. Miss King is teaching in Year 2, Mrs Stone will be teaching Penguins (Mon/Tue), Puffins (Wed) and Seashells (Thur/Fri). Mrs Rogers is working as a teaching assistant with Mrs Hobdell in Year 1. They have also settled in well to school and are enjoying being part of our team. We are all looking forward to working with you during the forthcoming year. If you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate in speaking with your child’s teacher or myself.
Best wishes, Mrs Harmer Communication As a school we value working in partnership with you and try our best to inform you about your child’s education. We will have meetings for parents in Key Stage One to tell you about the curriculum and suggest ways that you can help your child to learn at home (details overleaf). In Foundation Stage we have Reading and Maths Cafes, when you can come in to listen to a story and practise some phonics or number work in your child’s classroom. This is followed up with a fun practical activity in the Hall with your child, any younger siblings are welcome to come and join in too! We will also have our IT Technician on hand during these sessions if you need any help with, or would like to access your child’s Learning Journey on Tapestry. If you have any concerns about your child, please talk to his or her teacher after school to arrange an appointment or speak to a member of the office staff to arrange a time to speak to myself or one of the Year Group Leaders.
Lining up in the morning Please help us to keep your children safe. When the children line up in the morning, please say goodbye to them and then stand well back. This helps us to see all of the children in the line and also helps those parents who have children in more than one class. When the first bell rings please move well back onto the playground and away from the brickweave near the Foundation Stage Two classrooms and courtyard. The second bell will ring when we can see the class lines clearly and feel that we can safely lead the children into school without bumping into parents or pushchairs. We really appreciate your co-operation with this.
Name it/Label it! Save ££££s, please, please make sure that ALL of your child’s belongings are clearly named. We always have a huge pile of lost property at the end of each term, including expensive coats, bags and sometimes even school shoes! We have approximately 265 pupils wearing blue jumpers or cardigans in school, if your child leaves an unnamed jumper in the Hall it is very tricky to know who it belongs to.
Children’s University We are really proud to announce that Caister Infant, Nursery and Children’s Centre is a validated Norfolk Children’s University learning destination. A Children’s University learning destination encourages its children to access learning outside of lessons in the form of clubs/outside organizations and learning based visits to places such a museums and art galleries. The children gain recognition for their commitment to enhancing their own learning. If you are interested in enrolling your child in ‘Children’s University’ we would like to invite you to a short meeting about how the scheme works and answer any questions you may have. This meeting will take place on Thursday 24 th September at 2.30pm in the school hall.
Please remember that if your child is ill you should inform the school on the first day of absence -

Rewards We have many reward systems in school to encourage children to be successful and they love to wear their stickers and badges with pride. Reading Reward We will continue to reward the children who read at least three times a week with a reading sticker and special badge after 10 successful weeks. Please record in your child’s reading record each time you hear them read (or practise sounds in Foundation Stage Two). Good to be Green We have a Good to be Green behaviour scheme. The children who follow our Golden Rules are awarded a green spot at the end of each day. They receive a special badge when they have achieved this for thirty days. All children who have stayed on Green for a whole term will have an extra special treat. Each week two children from each class will be selected to receive a ‘privilege card’. This will entitle them to participate in a special activity at the end of the week. Children will also be collecting individual smileys for good work, attitude, manners and behaviour. Their first target is 100 smileys, when they will receive a Bronze Certificate.
School Lunch ‘Fishy Friday’ Please note that in week three ‘salmon fillet’ will be replaced with ‘fish fingers’. 15/09/15 17/09/15 24/09/15 02/10/15 06-08/10/15 16/10/15 20/10/15 21/10/15 21/10/15 02/11/15 05/11/15 13/11/15 13/11/15 16/11/15 17/11/15 19/11/15 20/11/15 24/11/15 27/11/15 01/12/15 02/12/15 03/12/15 04/12/15 08/12/15 09/12/15 10/12/15 13/12/15 17/12/15 18/12/15 18/12/15 04/01/16 05/01/16

Attendance It is so important that your child attends school everyday. They will miss out on important reading, writing and maths lessons as well as learning new skills across the curriculum, enjoying PE and having fun with their friends. Each week every child who has 100% attendance can choose an item from the treat box. We also award the class with the best attendance with a special trophy. Termly, each child with 100% attendance receives a special certificate, with a special prize to those who have 100% all year. Last year we celebrated 100% attendance for a child who had been at school every day from Foundation Stage Two up to Year Two. This year also watch out for ‘On Time Tim’ who will be looking out for good attendance and for those children that get to school on time!
Post Box Please use the post box on the playground for all letters, money etc. It is emptied every morning.
