“Progressive’ Christianity: Fact or Fiction…Why Does It Matter That The Bible Is Reliable?”
TEXT:
2 Timothy 3: 16-17
I.
Scripture Is Given By God’s Inspiration (vs.16a) a. The source of all eternal truth, which is Scripture is God b. The Scripture is not only given by God, by it is inspired (God breathed) c. The progressive state a weakness of the Bible is that it is written over thousands of years with many human authors….we state that rather than this being a weakness, it is the Scripture’s strength
II.
Scripture Is The Final Authority To The Biblical Christian (vs.16b) a. The main issue of the progressives is that their own corrupt minds become their source of authority, because they deny the authority of the Scriptures b. Doctrine--our belief system is based on the authority of Scripture c. Reproof—Scripture is given in order that true Bible believers are equipped to stand against such heretical teachings as found in progressivism d. Correction—when there is a dispute about truth, actions, or thoughts the Scripture is the final authority e. Instruction—Scripture is given so we can be equipped to believe, live and walk in His righteousness
III.
Scripture Is All That Is Needed For The Equipping Of The Bible Believing Christian (vs. 17) a. It perfectly and thoroughly equips us b. It does this so we are equipped for every good work
