“Progressive’ Christianity: Fact or Fiction? Why Does It Matter That Jesus Was Resurrected?”
TEXT:
1 Corinthians 15: 1-5
I.
The Resurrection Is The Event That Gives Validity To Who Jesus Is & What Jesus Did
a. Every Gospel writer speaks of the Risen Lord b. Paul says that the Resurrection is a key part of the saving & sustaining Gospel (1 Cor. 15: 1 & 4)
II.
Does It Matter That Jesus’ Resurrection Be Physical & Not Merely Spiritual?
III.
Why Does It Matter That Jesus Has Literally Risen From The Dead?
a. To say “physical” Resurrection is actually redundant b. The Greek word translated Resurrection is “anastasis”…meaning a standing up, a raising up, a rising, a resurrection--Strong’s i. “ana”- up ii. “histeim”- to stand c. Every dictionary I was able to look up (both religious & secular) defines the term Resurrection as being a total body resurrection
a. Without the Resurrection i. Our preaching & faith are empty (1 Cor. 15: 13-14) ii. Our faith is futile & we are still in our sins (1 Cor. 15: 17) iii. Our existence is meaningless (1 Cor. 15: 18-19) b. Because of the Resurrection i. We have eternal life (1 Cor. 15: 22) ii. Death is destroyed (1 Cor. 15:26) iii. There is great encouragement that Christ’s victory over death is ours (1 Cor. 15: 50-58) PM SERVICE
