Lagoon upgrade completed – 100% funded by Alberta Provincial Water for Life Grant

Regional Line Phase l: Lagoon to Village at Pigeon Lake (VPL)    

In final testing and commissioning 90% paid by Province Remainder shared by six municipalities Poplar Bay: 12% ($170 K) paid by grant funds

Preliminary design completed Low-pressure system Effluent pump (STEP) in each holding tank Each municipality to have its own “municipal utility” Directional drilling will be used to reduce disturbance to ground surface and remediation costs Estimated cost of Poplar Bay line: $2.3 M.

You need a two chamber holding tank, a pump, and a tie-in. (Note: single compartment tanks can be accommodated – shown later)

 

Pump type - septic tank effluent pump (STEP) Residential connections will include: ◦ Tie-in line from curb stop valve at property line to tank ◦ Connection from line to tank outlet ◦ Installation of pump ◦ Installation of electrical ◦ a check valve

9

Two chambers are required ◦ ◦

One chamber tanks are adaptable

Solids collect and break down in the first chamber. Clear liquids are siphoned to the second chamber and then pumped to the local line. By inserting a secondary tank next to the main tank in the hole dug out for installing the connection lines (approximate cost $1,500)

Existing tank may be used if in good condition. 10

Determine validity of resident petition as per MGA requirements. Obtain funding approval and construct Phase ll Regional Line. Form Municipal Utility – set rate structure, bylaws and policies – transparent process governed by MGA Finalize design tender process for local system. Form agreement with Grandview for pipeline sharing. Construct local system.

Design engineering will begin when the Regional Wastewater Line Phase II grant is approved. Tendering and Construction can get underway when the Phase II line construction starts. The Phase II Water for Life grant application has been submitted and we will be advised of the decision regarding the release of funds after the Phase I work is completed. Note that if the Phase II Water for Life grant is not approved, the project will require re-work and will be delayed .
